A folded landscape sheet from TI Reynolds Limited, Hay Hall, Tyseley. One face reproduces 24 numbered frame transfers with a note of exactly what each one certifies; the other is a list of Reynolds agents and distributors worldwide. It is the fullest single statement of the Reynolds transfer range in this collection.
Dating. A printer code sits at the foot of the transfers face. Its terminal group reads 4/81; the characters before it will not resolve at this scan resolution. Read against the house pattern of the 1972 Top Tubes booklet, whose code 15 M/12/72 gives run, month and year, that points to April 1981. The contents agree: transfer 17, the SpeedStream oval, is called the latest Reynolds 531 transfer, and the sheet carries the Reynolds SMS group and a tandem transfer that the other transfers sheet here does not. The year is therefore inferred from a partly legible code plus range composition, not read cleanly off the page.
Three things earn it a place.
The range is complete in a way no secondary account is. Twenty-four designs are set out, covering plain 531, 531 Special Lightweight with its French Extra Léger equivalent, 753, the oval SpeedStream, a dedicated tandem transfer and the whole SMS seamless steel group, each with the specific combination of butted, taper-gauge and plain-gauge components it certifies. The distinction between a frame transfer and the small fork transfer that may only accompany it is stated repeatedly.
The imprint is a dating tool in itself. This sheet is signed TI Reynolds Limited at P.O. Box 232 with telephone 021-706 3333 and telex 338181. The undated set leaflets elsewhere in this collection are signed TI Reynolds 531 Limited at P.O. Box 765 with telephone 021-706 5151 and a fax number. The 1972 booklet is signed Reynolds Tube Company Ltd. Three different imprints, three different periods.
And the agents list is a distribution map of the British lightweight trade abroad. The United Kingdom main agent for orders of 500 sets or less is The Holdsworthy Co. Ltd. of Oakfield Road, London SE20, which ties this sheet directly to the Holdsworth material already in this archive. France is Ets. Dupieux-Reynolds S.A. of Paris, Belgium is Ets. Super Champion, and Holland, West Germany, the United States and Canada are all handled through TI Sturmey-Archer companies.
The sheet reached the Ebykr collection through the National Cycle Archive in partnership with the Veteran-Cycle Club, whose courtesy card is the first page of the source file. That card is not reproduced here. Both faces are printed landscape on a portrait leaf and have been rotated upright for the archive.

[Twenty-four transfers are reproduced across the sheet in green, gold, black, magenta and orange, numbered 1 to 24, with the explanations below keyed to those numbers.]
1, 2 & 3. Probably the best known bicycle transfers in the world! A bicycle with any one of these is a real thoroughbred, built with REYNOLDS 531 BUTTED frame tubes, BUTTED steerer, TAPER-GAUGE fork blades and plain gauge head tube and stays.
4 & 5. Fork transfers. These are used only in conjunction with the three top-grade REYNOLDS 531 transfers.
6. The top tube, seat tube and down tube of a bicycle with this transfer are REYNOLDS 531 BUTTED tubes, with a plain gauge REYNOLDS 531 head tube. Stays and fork blades may not be of Reynolds’ manufacture.
7. The top tube, seat tube and down tube of a bicycle with this transfer are REYNOLDS 531 BUTTED tubes. Head tube, stays and fork blades may not be of Reynolds’ manufacture.
8, 9 & 10. BUTTED frame tubes and steerer, TAPER-GAUGE fork blades, plain gauge head tube and stays, all made from very light gauge REYNOLDS 531 SPECIAL LIGHTWEIGHT tube. (‘Extra Léger’ — the French equivalent of ‘Special Lightweight’).
11 & 12. Used only in conjunction with the ‘Special Lightweight’ frame transfers and applied to the REYNOLDS 531 SPECIAL LIGHTWEIGHT fork blades.
13 & 14. These transfers show that REYNOLDS 753 tube is used throughout — BUTTED for frame tubes, TAPER-GAUGE fork blades and plain-gauge head tube, steerer and stays.
15 & 16. These are used only in conjunction with REYNOLDS 753 frame transfers, and are applied to the REYNOLDS 753 TAPER-GAUGE fork blades near the crown.
17. The latest Reynolds 531 transfer — the frame tubes are OVAL for reduced wind-resistance, and they are BUTTED. Taper gauge fork blades, plain gauge head tube and stays, all in REYNOLDS 531.
18. A mixture of BUTTED and plain-gauge, round and OVAL tubes, all in REYNOLDS 531, to conform to the latest tandem design philosophy. Taper-gauge fork blades and plain gauge stays complete the picture.
19 & 20. These transfers show that the bicycle is built throughout with REYNOLDS SMS plain gauge seamless steel tubes, designed for sports and touring cycles.
21 & 22. Only the main frame tubes are in REYNOLDS SMS where this transfer is used.
23 & 24. Fork blades in REYNOLDS SMS. Used in conjunction with transfers 19 and 20.
