HALL du CYCLE : Stand 53.

[A ruled advertisement in black and white, about three-quarters as wide as tall, with a thin rule across the foot. At the upper left a dark slanting panel holds “Dès” in white flowing script above “AUJOURD’HUI” in heavy white condensed capitals. To its right a young man and a young woman ride two bicycles side by side toward the viewer, drawn in black line engraving with solid black shadows and a cast shadow on the ground; he wears a light jacket over a dark vest and leans on dropped handlebars, she wears a sleeveless blouse and a dark skirt and holds upright handlebars, and the second bicycle’s wheel is cropped by the right edge. Below the panel “ROULEZ ET PEDALEZ” is set in spaced bold capitals and “avec” in italic script. A large open ellipse swept in a thin black line encloses “LES INIMITABLES” in lighter capitals and “CHAINES” and “ET PÉDALES” in heavy spaced capitals, with a round black dot at its lower end. A shield emblem containing a letter U stands at the left. The name “UNION” fills the width in very large solid slab-serif lowercase-style letters, the letter i marked by a big round dot. A dark band beneath it, slanted at its left end, carries the firm’s name, address and telephone in white italic and bold capitals, and a line of small spaced type under the band gives the Hall du Cycle stand number. The right edge is cut at the binding fold, which clips the last digit or so of the telephone number. No artist signature is visible.]

[This advertisement shares page 110 of L’Officiel du cycle with advertisements for the C.L.B. Rétrofrein chain brake for cyclomoteurs and Dynex magnetic flywheels.]
