LA CHAINE DE QUALITÉ SUPÉRIEURE
[A full-width advertisement in black and white with no outer rule, printed as a dark panel over a coarse dotted halftone ground. At the upper left a tilted, three-dimensional carton stands upright with a line drawing of a racing cyclist in shorts and short sleeves riding a drop-handlebar bicycle uphill in front of a rocky peak, with a strip of chain drawn along the bottom edge of the picture. Below the drawing, in the dark lower part of the carton face, “CHAINE” is set in capitals over the brand name in a flowing script with a long underline, and a few small characters sit at the lower right of the face; “FABRIQUE EN FRANCE” runs up the slanted side of the carton in spaced capitals. At the upper right the headline is set in large, rough brush-script lettering in light letters on the dark ground, ending in a huge script “Brampton” with a thick slanted bar beneath it. Across the lower half three large circular panels sit side by side, each with its label curved along the upper edge of the circle. The left one, “CYCLE”, shows a man in a cap and waistcoat riding a bicycle, drawn in line with speed streaks; the middle one, “CYCLOMOTEUR”, shows a woman raising one hand while riding a small motorized bicycle with a chain case; the right one, “MOTO”, shows a rider in a helmet and goggles on a motorcycle. At the foot of each circle a wide strip of roller chain is drawn in gray halftone, running across the bottom of the circle. A long rounded label in bold capitals across the bottom edge carries the closing line. No artist signature is visible and no text from the reverse of the leaf shows through.]
[This advertisement shares page 200 of L’Officiel du cycle with an advertisement for Guttacoll, held here as its own record, and one for J.D.F. Mistral pumps for motor machines.]
