SOUBITEZ

79, AVENUE DU XI NOVEMBRE, LE PERREUX – SEINE – FRANCE

[A full-color advertisement printed in black, gray and a red-orange, with no frame, a painted illustration with very little text. A round headlamp seen from the front sits at the upper left, its glass crossed by vertical lines and a shield-shaped badge at the top lettered “SOUBITEZ” in angular capitals; long tapering rays of light spread from it in all directions across a gray ground that darkens toward the foot of the picture. At the right a large terrestrial globe crossed by lines of latitude and longitude, with the continents shown in pale tones, curves up and out of the frame. In the foreground a bottle-shaped chrome dynamo, lettered “SouBITEZ” along its body, points down toward a wheel: its drive roller rests on the tire and its clamp sits on a fork leg, which is drawn as a heavy gray blade with a slotted bolt and a nut. Thin spokes run from the wheel into the black lower field. Below the picture the single word “SOUBITEZ” stands in very large red-orange block capitals with white highlights and a dark drop shadow, and the address follows in thin white sans serif capitals. The artist’s signature “A. Kow”, with a dash at each side, is lettered in light strokes in the dark area just above the red name at the right. No other signature is visible.]
