REYNOLDS
PATENT BUTTED TUBES
FOR CYCLE and MOTOR
CYCLE CONSTRUCTION

THESE TUBES, which are generally recognised as the highest possible grade of Seamless Steel Tubes, are made from the finest Swedish Steel, solid drawn in graduated thickness by our special processes, and contain in themselves all the graduations in strength required to meet the strains put upon them, giving an ideal construction in the frame and other parts of the Cycle and Motor Cycle.

The joints, usually the weakest points, are, under this system, the strongest, and the weakening effect of brazing and filing is counteracted by the extra thickness of the butt ends. These Tubes are produced in our well known bright finish, which saves considerable labour in polishing.

With each set of Butted Tubes we supply, when desired, a transfer in gold for affixing to the frame, as facsimile below :

TAPER GAUGE FRONT FORKS

REYNOLDS [?]

The great advantage of the graduated thickness is obvious, and these forks are of much higher grade than any other kind, being made from high carbon Swedish steel and all the processes of manufacturing are done cold, thus retaining the smooth close surface of the steel, and giving the maximum strength and resiliency with minimum weight

The above illustrates a few of the various shapes we supply. They are made in D, Oval & Round Sections from the Standard Sizes, ⅞in., 15/16in. [?] or 1in. Round Tubing and tapered to any of these sections at bottom end ; and with Trapped or open ends.

The standard gauges of these Forks are as follows :—
Taper Gauge 19-22, 18-21, 17-20, 16-20 or 16-18
Plain Gauge 18g. or 16g.

Other Sections and Gauges can be supplied in quantities if Customers will give details of their requirements.

[A drawing of a curved front fork blade lettered REYNOLDS, above a photograph of seven taper gauge fork blades of various bends, four with closed flattened ends and three with open ends whose oval, D and round sections are drawn below them. The text gives the tube sizes, sections and standard gauges inside a thin red ruled border; no page number is printed.]

The employment of Butted or Taper Gauge Tubes in place of plain gauge Tubing is particularly advantageous in Motor Cycle construction.

PLAIN GAUGE SEAMLESS STEEL
TUBING

We have larely increased our capacity for producing the ordinary Plain Gauge Tubing, having recently put down a new and completely up-to-date Plant for its extensive production.

These Tubes are made in two distinct qualities— A Quality made from the finest Swedish Steel of ·30 to ·35% carbon ; B Quality made from a cheaper class of Steel of about ·15% carbon.

Supplied in our special Bright Finish, unless required annealed, when this should be stated.

PLAIN GAUGE FRAME TUBES

We make a leading line of the sets of 3 main Tubes for cycle frame construction, in ⅞in. [?], 1in. or 1⅛in. dia. × 22, 20, 19 or 18g., cut to usual lengths as required, and supplied in our special Bright Finish.
These Tubes are made in either A or B Quality as described above.
With each set we supply when desired a gold transfer for affixing to the frame as facsimile below for the two qualities respectively :—

For A Quality

‘REYNOLDS’
BEST QUALITY TUBING.

For B Quality

MITRED FRAME TUBES

We supply Frame Tubes with ends mitred accurately to correct angles, when required. We illustrate below a few types of mitreing. This is a great saving of labour, and having designed special machinery for the work, we charge only a nominal extra.

[Facsimiles of the two Reynolds frame transfers, a boxed “Guaranteed Built with Reynolds’ Best Quality Tubing” for A Quality and a script “Reynolds Tubing.” for B Quality, between the text on plain gauge tubing and frame tubes, with a photograph of six frame tubes with differently mitred ends at the foot. The page is framed by a red rule and carries no printed folio.]

MOTOR CAR TUBES

By our special processes of manufacture we produce a more consolidated and homogeneous tube than is the case in those produced by the ordinary processes, and consequently specially adapted for use in connection with MOTOR CAR and LIGHT CAR construction. Quotations will be given against specifications, in any required quality of steel according to the purpose for which the tube is to be used.

AEROPLANE TUBING

Our large experience in producing Aeroplane Tubing for War purposes enables us to give Aeroplane builders the benefit of this, and to offer the highest possible quality for this important work.

All tubing can be subjected to the standard Airboard tests in our own works before despatch if so desired.

MANIPULATED TUBES

A large and varied stock of tools enables us to supply every description of manipulated tube, such as :—

CYCLE HANDLEBAR BENDS
We can supply these in the usual standard patterns, or to special requirements.

MOTOR CYCLE HANDLEBAR BENDS
To Customers’ own patterns in either ⅞in. [?] or 1in. diameter × 14g. or 15g. plain tubing, also in a special type of tube butted in the centre.

LOOP TUBES
Made from plain gauge tubing ⅞in. [?] diameter, 18g., 19g. or 20g. to suit 7in., 9in. or 11in. heads, and to any bends to suit Customers’ own requirements.

SEAT PILLAR STEMS & BUILT UP SEAT PILLARS
To standard patterns or special requirements.

CYCLE FRONT FORKS, CHAIN STAYS and SEAT STAYS
In a great variety of patterns of which some are illustrated on these pages. Many other patterns can be supplied and special requirements met.

MOTOR CYCLE FRONT FORK, TOP TUBES and STAY TUBES
We can supply any variety of bent tube for motor cycle work and shall be pleased to quote on receipt of particulars.
