Reynolds c.1989 Set Leaflets — 531 Speedstream, 700 Classic and 753 All Terrain

Three single-sheet set data sheets issued by TI Reynolds 531 Limited from Hay Hall, Redfern Road, Tyseley, Birmingham, and bound together in one source file: 531 Speedstream, 700 Classic and 753 All Terrain. Each sheet gives one frame set in full, and the three are printed to a common template, so they read as one document rather than three fragments.

None of the sheets carries a date. Four things place them at the turn of the 1990s. The imprint is TI Reynolds 531 Limited, a member of the TI Group of companies. The telephone and fax numbers are Birmingham 021 numbers, which fixes them before the April 1995 change to 0121. The 753 All Terrain set does not appear in the 1988 Product Range but does appear in the 1990 one. And the tube is called 700 Classic here, where the 1990 Product Range calls it 708 Classic. The sheets therefore sit between those two catalogs, and 1989 is the best single year for them. Treat that as inferred rather than documented.

What earns them a place is the ordering data. Each sheet lists every tube in the set by Reynolds part number with outside diameter, gauge, length and tip count, which is the information a constructor actually worked from and the information that lets a frame be read backward from its tubing today. The three sets also sit at three different points in the range: 531 Speedstream is drawn for lugless construction, 700 Classic is a special-section tube with a flat-sided profile, and 753 All Terrain is restricted stock.

Two details are worth pulling out. The 700 Classic diagram carries an identification note in its own words, that the Reynolds mark will always be above a flat, which is a fact about how a finished frame can be read rather than a fact about the tube. And the 753 All Terrain sheet gives its typical tensile strength as 195,500 psi in English and 195,000 psi in French on the same page. The discrepancy is in the original and is reproduced here rather than reconciled.

The sheets reached the Ebykr collection through the National Cycle Archive in partnership with the Veteran-Cycle Club, whose courtesy card is the first page of the source file. That card is not reproduced here. The scan sits near the resolution floor, and a small number of figures in the set tables are soft; where a figure could not be read with confidence it is omitted rather than guessed.
