Les activités CLÉMENT-BAYARD
[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Clément-Bayard is a prestigious name in the automobile and particularly in the cycle, of which “le Père Clément” was one of the pioneers. The Société anonyme des Anciens Établissements Clément-Bayard continues in that branch the making of cycle accessories such as spokes and nuts for cycles and motorcycles, known under the Bayard mark. The author then recalls in a few lines the history of the house founded by the promoter of the cycle and the automobile in France. The first Société Clément et Cie was founded by him in 1879, and the first works rose in the rue Brunel in Paris, in the middle of what was to be the cycle quarter par excellence; there was also a riding school for velocipedes for beginner buyers. In 1896 the Levallois works were founded, where automobiles, airplanes and airships were made. In 1898 the first Clément voiturette was built under Panhard license. Car building, interrupted by the war, resumed in 1919 and continued until 1921, when M. Clément-Bayard let his works on the quai Michelet to the Société Citroën. For aviation history the author adds that Clément-Bayard was the first to cross the Channel in an airship, in October 1910, and made the airplane distance record from Biarritz to Kollum in 1913. The Société anonyme has been run since 1937 by M. P.-A. Dumont, grandson of Adolphe Clément-Bayard. It operates, besides a large foundry of malleable iron and steel, a very modern general engineering shop where the Mabec motor cultivators are made.]
[A column notice in a trade magazine, text only. The heading “Les activités CLÉMENT-BAYARD” is set at the upper right in bold roman type with the name in capitals. The text below is in italic roman, with proper names in plain roman and small capitals and one phrase in bold roman. There are no drawings, no photographs, no signature, no address line and no stand number. A small blemish in the paper touches one word in the airship sentence.]
