[A ruled advertisement in a thin single-line frame. The upper part is a black panel with reversed lettering: “Depuis 1897.” in a brush script, “LES ROUES LIBRES” in heavy sans-serif capitals over a rule, the name “Préférence” across the middle in very large flowing script rising to the right with a long swash under it, and “Font honneur à l’Industrie Française” in a condensed bold face over another rule. At the upper left a line-engraved drawing shows a single freewheel sprocket with “Préférence” curved round its hub, and at the lower right a drawing of a multi-sprocket freewheel cluster seen at an angle. A white label cut into the lower left of the panel carries the firm’s name and address in spaced capitals. A small vertical signature, apparently “Grand”, runs up the right edge of the cluster drawing at the lower right of the panel. Below the panel a centered italic heading introduces a record list in bold sans-serif and roman type, with the years at the left and key phrases underlined. No other signature or agency mark is visible.]

[This advertisement shares page 30 of L’Officiel du cycle with advertisements for Sterling, Pivo and Chazal-Rouchouse, each held here as its own record.]
