[A full-height advertisement in a thin single-rule frame. The upper half is a large black panel in which the lettering is reversed out in white: “Depuis 1897.” in brush script, “LES ROUES LIBRES” in heavy capitals, the brand name “Préférence” in a large sweeping script with a long underline flourish, and the closing slogan. At the upper left of the panel, a single-speed freewheel drawn in white line with “Préférence” in script on its body; at the lower right, a multiple freewheel of five sprockets drawn in white stippled line, signed vertically at its right edge, reading upward, “Grand” with an initial before it that reads like “X.” or “A.” [?], about native (1447, 1050-1185). The firm’s name and Saint-Étienne address are set on a white strip notched into the panel’s lower left. Below the panel, the « Palmarès » of 1949 and 1950 is set in sans-serif type with the key results underlined. No agency mark.]
