CYQUEL
DESIGNED FOR
THE CLUBMAN
AND HIS CYCLE
The “box” design is
made to fit a rider
and his bag and

draping over in hit

panel likewise runs
flat from shoulder
to saddlebag. Side
panels are shaped to hang vertically without a lot of
spare material to lift in the wind. Waist tapes and
thumb loops are fitted from the welded side seams to
hold cape down snugly. A full width ventilated yoke
with cellular inset keeps condensation to a minimum.

QUELDA-LUXE. Made from a light cotton material
impregnated with P.V.C. for complete waterproofing and
strength, the result is a comparatively light weight cape
which will withstand the most rigorous
usage. Side seams are covered with a
narrow plastic strip welded into posi-
tion so that not a drop of water can
penetrate the stitching. A full width
ventilated yoke across the back pro-
tects the shoulders from condensation
and the neck opening is closed by a
diagonally set zip under a protective
flap. Size: 45″ front with full should-
ers and wide hem allowing more room
than average.
Black or Bronze … 53/11

HIGH-NECK SWEATER. Continental Training Jersey.
From the Continent is this striking jersey made in
best wool, strengthened with 20% Nylon. Ideal for
training, extra length in body and sleeves allows for
getting down to it without leaving “bare patches” at
the wrist and most vunerable lower back. A good
length zip closes the neck which may be worn in the
open position, to a
really high fitting roll
beneath the chin. Ex-
tremely close knit, in
a medium weight, the
tight ribbing ensures
a permanent close fit
while still allowing
the garment to
breathe. Boldly pat-
terned. White, Red

CRODONI HOSE
TYROLEAN
The most recent introduction by Crodoni is a boldly patterned hose in 100% wool. Heavier than most, with extra length that allows the deep cuff to be turned over the knee, under pantaloni on very cold days. Shaped for comfort the stitch allows both calf and ankle to flex without hindrance. Two very striking colours are offered in the same outstanding design. Black with White contrast or Green with Red. Sizes 10-11 37/9

PRIMA
Wool & Terylene. In striking colour combinations the very popular continental design, of Scandinavian motifs and horizontal bars, is shown to full advantage. So much pattern is woven into the hose that the only obvious base colour shows at the elasticated top.

CRODONI RACING SHOES
ITALIAN MADE
“GIRO”
ROAD
SHOE
A shoe with revolutionary ideas of comfort. Well spaced larger perforations in the upper are combined in the Continental fashion with eight holes in the sole. These holes serve a double purpose; in hot weather they keep the feet ideally cool, whilst in rain, when normal shoes become ‘water-logged’ they enable excess water to run out and avoid the discomfort of waterfilled shoes. The sturdy sole of the ‘Giro’ with its four-point steel support eliminates foot fatigue over the longer distances. (Hand made in metric sizes 38 m. to 48 m. State English size required and nearest half size. (e.g. 8, 8½ equal 43 m.) 95/-
“VELOCE”
PURSUIT
SHOE
With its sweeping lines and slender waist, perforated upper and pliable sole, supported at the instep by a light steel support, will appeal to all riders who are seeking the lightest and coolest of shoes. The high front laces to an inch of the toe and the ankle is neatly trimmed. Designed as a purely racing shoe (not suitable for Club ‘football’ or Cyclo Cross), the light sole carries no heel. (Sizes as Giro) … 77/6
[A photograph of a perforated leather racing shoe labeled Giro, and a second photograph of a lower-cut, finely perforated pursuit shoe labeled Veloce.]
[Folio 14.]
[Right-hand page.]
CRODONI SHOES
“CAMPIONE”
AND
“CORSA”
Since their introduction these have proved very popular. Hand built by some of the finest craftsmen in Italy. Both types have the obvious class of all Crodoni products. Shaped on the same lines as the “Veloce” these all black shoes have full chrome uppers and full length leather soles fitted with light heels. Close rolled edges and tiny lace holes give a really neat finish. No stiffener is fitted under the instep as on the other models so a shoe plate should be used.
CAMPIONE. Uppers have three rows of perforations for improved ventilation. As illustrated … 67/6
CORSA. With smooth plain unperforated uppers. Ideal for all general use. Metric size range. State English size … 65/-
WINTER
“BOOTEE”
Fully-lined
Beautifully shaped from a full chrome leather cut from calf side for extra suppleness. The upper is extended to cover the ankle with the throat cut back to allow full movement. Fully weatherproofed, a thick fleecy lining covers the whole inner sole and upper, even the tongue which is anchored at one side is similarly lined. The hard wearing Viklite sole which carries a medium heel is completely waterproof. An investment for the winter rider who has experienced trouble in keeping his feet warm in lightweight shoes … 90/11
N.B. Shoe plates are not advised on this type of sole.
[A photograph of a low black lace-up racing shoe with perforations, and a second photograph of a high-ankled lined winter bootee.]
[Folio 15.]

WORTHY SHOES
Almost fifty years of practical experience are behind the design of Worthy shoes which offer unparalleled value by subtle combinations of old techniques and modern processes. Uppers are fashioned from fully chromed leather, the only top that will retain comfort and shape under the arduous conditions imposed by all-weather cycling.
Worthy shoes are all supplied in half sizes
RECORD
Sizes 2-12
A stout all round clubman’s shoe with a tough though supple black leather upper tastefully trimmed with a subdued red trimming. Both heel and toe are reinforced and a pedal patch is provided. The one-piece sole is cut from selected leather and carries a light full heel. Long close lacing through Continental style triangular eyelets enhances the appearance of a good class shoe.
Sizes 6-12 (3-5½ 49/11) … 54/11
CHILTERN
Sizes 5-12
A strongly designed shoe designed for touring with the solid stitched, one piece leather sole built up to a Viklite capped heel for comfort when off the cycle. Supple chrome leather uppers carry two deep shaped pedal patches. The opening is neatly finished with a rolled edge. Curved backs and blocked toes ensure a shape retaining close fit. Black only.
Sizes 6-12 (5 and 5½ 49/-) … 53/11
TAKE CARE OF YOUR SHOES
Never dry shoes by artificial heat. Allow shoes to dry out naturally, stuffing with paper will aid initial drying and help to retain shape of uppers. HEAT RUINS LEATHER. Use short pins when fitting plates, do not ‘bend over’.
[Line drawings of two lace-up shoes, the Record with a toe cap and a perforated panel, and the Chiltern with a pointed tongue and a low heel.]

CAMPAGNOLO BRAKES
Available at last to the British Market are the fabulous brakes that have been under development for several years. Finally reaching the desired Campagnolo standards these were used last season by the World Professional Road Champion Vittorio Adorni, Eddie Merckx and a few selected top Professional riders. Now proved efficient in practice as well as in theory the brakes incorporate many innovations as would be expected from Campagnolo. Designed on the side pull system once again popular with top Continental riders, the superb finish and machining overcomes realignment problems. Wide curving arms, made of the same alloy as the Nuovo Record gear, ensure that maximum leverage is applied to the special blocks that have guides to assist rapid wheel replacement. The pivot bolt on which the return spring is mounted has spanner flats so that the caliper may be held in position while the brake is bolted to the frame. The cable is tensioned by a finger light adjuster with cam seating that holds the rubber covered thumb screw in position. Typical of Campagnolo attention to detail, the rubber ring prevents damage to down tube paintwork should the bars swing round. The beautifully shaped lever has a specially moulded hood giving positive grip with maximum comfort. The large nylon bushed pivot is locked central with its own grub screw and the cable pivot is knurled on the outside to facilitate cable fitment through the slot in the hood. Braking action is powerful and progressive under all conditions even when operated with the cam action quick release in the open position.

UNIVERSAL BRAKES
Universal have long been recognised by Continentals as one of the best brakes made in Italy where braking is of paramount importance. Vitally necessary when descending the badly surfaced passes, or negotiating amongst the ‘mad’ drivers in their narrow town streets.
CENTRE PULL mod 61.
Giving extremely efficient and balanced braking this model operates from a central cable. The arms are pivoted from either end of a strong anchor plate clamped to the forks crossing over each other so that maximum leverage is applied when lifted by the straddle wire, which is balanced over the clamp. This system allows the blocks to follow an untrue rim, without loss of grip. The coil springs give clean release of the blocks which are studded for wet weather use.
Supplied with double fluted silver outer casing, and hooded alloy levers with deep translucent hoods.
Shallow stirrup No. 105—Deep No. 106 … 79/11
Quick Release. SIDE PULL mod. 51.
A really neat caliper with polished alloy arms widely curving to give mudguard clearance and good leverage. Striking feature is the quick release lever, linked from a lower stop, to the upper cable pivot by a cranked arm. In normal use, the release lever is out of sight and the cable pivot is given extra support by the arm. Studded soft blocks and hooded lever, as illustrated. Shallow front stirrup, deep rear No. 100/101 or deep/deep 101/101 … 57/6

CAMPAGNOLO RECORD
ALLOY COTTERLESS
Superbly machined to fine engineering limits from solid alloy forgings to ensure by their accuracy that all rings will run perfectly true. Chemically polished and anodised to a lustrous finish which resists corrosion. The current pattern have a narrow section which cuts down wind resistance and reduces “tread” width. All rings are machined from solid blanks, and sit on square shoulders, clamped by Allen key fitted bushes and sleeves. The tapered square by which the crank locates on the axle is so accurate that it should be fitted clean and dry. Correctly fitted, no further adjustment should be required and the mounting will be absolutely true. Cranks and chainsets are supplied with appropriate bracket fittings finished in Satin chrome with two pre-lubricated cages of 1/4″ balls.
STRADA ROAD CRANKS are the basis of the following sets and are drilled to fit rings from 42T upwards.

CAMPAGNOLO GEARS
CAMPAGNOLO—undisputed leader in the design and
manufacture of derailleur gears for over 20 years. Since
1948 when Bartali and Coppi fought their legendary
Alpine battles using Campagnolo Corsa and Paris-
Roubaix gears, constant development has ensured that
racing and sporting cyclists are offered equipment to
standards of engineering epitomised in the latest model
—the most advanced and lightest—the Nuovo Record.
CAMPAGNOLO gears are supplied with choice of
“Covered cable” (full length outer casing and clips) or
“Bare wire” (with short lengths of stainless steel outer
and clips or stops/tunnels) for use on frames with no
braze-on gear fittings. Down tube lever (right, left or
twin) or Handlebar control.

NUOVO RECORD GEAR
Lightest in the world.
The latest example of Italian
supremacy is made from a
new alloy developed for use
in rocketry. Fantastically
light, the mechanism weighs
only 7¼ ozs. Designed to
encompass a range of 13—
36T, an extra length tension
spring is carried in a close
fitting sleeve, giving full
support to the toothed
Nylon sprockets. Widely
spaced parallel arms, plus
increased chain wrap and
tension, allow the gear to
operate over six speed free-
wheels.

CAMPAGNOLO GEARS
RECORD REAR GEAR
Developed from the Gran Sport
which first introduced the “de-
formable parallelogram” system to
modern cycle gearing. The twin
arms maintain the roller cage in
a fully supported upright position
beneath the selected freewheel
sprocket. Chain line is so exact
that the gear will function on any
selected sprocket if both cable and
return spring are disconnected.
Suitable for 4, 5 or 6 speed free-
wheels with a range of 13—36T.
Complete with D/tube control

RECORD CHANGER
A most efficient changer, particu-
larly when used with wide racing
ratio Strada chainsets. Incor-
porating the same principles as
the rear mechanism. Simple in
operation as all good gears are,
the cage is mounted on short arms
which form the parallel action.
The single coil spring holds the
arms in position, and returns the
cage to normal. Hinged alloy
clip fixes gear to seat tube.
N.B. Hinged clip is exact fit to seat tube, do not fit over
tape or clip may fracture when tightened.

VALENTINO EXTRA
A greatly improved version of the earlier Valentino
gear. Produced by Campagnolo to meet the need of
a competitively priced mechanism for use on lightweight
sports cycles.
Based on the accepted parallelo-
gram principle and incorporating
simple screwdriver adjustment,
the Valentino Extra has ample
“throw” for five speed 3/32″ gear-
ing, coupled with a double chain-
set if required. The tensioned
cage allows for operation over
a range from 13 to 36 teeth.
The latest Nylon toothed jockey
sprockets are smooth and silent
during “change” and “drive”.
Supplied with Valentino R/H
Down Tube control lever and
inner wire … 37/6

VALENTINO CHANGER
Though not supplied separately a
Valentino front changer is avail-
able when eight or ten gears are
required. Operating from twin
down tube levers of the simpler
Valentino design. Similar
in principle to the orig-
inal Gran Sport changer
it has a fully enclosed
action positioned neatly
behind the seat tube. The
cage shaft is set at an
angle so that the space
between rings and cage
remains constant with the
result that clean changes
to the larger ring are
consistently maintained.
ENSEMBLE. Complete

N.B. Races may be easily pitted during the assembly. Do not over-tighten when fitting and lock back screwed race on to hanger when centre pull brakes are used or top nut will loosen. Extra column length is required for ‘Road’ set. Fit ‘Path’ if a set of another make is being replaced.

CAMPAGNOLO QUICK RELEASE HUBS
RECORD ALLOY STRADA LARGE FLANGE
Without doubt the finest hub made. Precision machined from solid alloy so that there is no movement between flanges and barrel. Distinctive flange cut-outs give maximum weight saving. The famous ‘blocage’ quick release fittings allow instant wheel removal but lock home solidly into position.
The special conical adjuster incorporates two bronze pads sprung so that the skewer cannot vibrate out of adjustment when wheel is carried as a spare or during rapid tyre changes.
Drilled 32/40, 36/36, 28/28 and 32/32.
Single sided gear only

CAMPAGNOLO PEDALS
Strada Road patt. No. 1037
Acknowledged the world over as the finest pedal ever produced. With polished alloy barrel of forged single unit construction, housing races of special hard chrome finish, for exceptional bearing life. The spindle is ground and polished nickel-chrome steel, the bearing radius and cone finished in hard chrome. A ‘rapid’ oilgroove between the barrel and spindle combines with a perfectly fitted dustcap to prevent any dust penetrating. The frame, of best quality steel, carries two special clips retaining the toe-strap in the correct position. Aided by a small projection on the back-plate the clip can always be ‘picked up’ smoothly. Special provision is also made for the toe clip by two neat studs set in the front plate. All finished in exceptionally heavy chrome … 132/6

KINSMAN PUMPS.
Dual Purpose—High Efficiency.
Revolutionary in concept the Kinsman pump is of greatest possible benefit to the car owner cum racing man. Essential for team wagons and ‘following cars’. Originally designed to take the effort out of pumping car tyres, this model is adapted for operation up to pressures of 160 lb. Taller than most pumps, very little effort is required to drive the air through the valve which remains open until the pump is disconnected. On each stroke air is simultaneously compressed and stored in a reserve chamber. Pressure remains balanced until the next stroke, prolonging valve life while easing the pumping action. A robust construction with 19″ length barrel and 24″ of reinforced connection. Model 2 with car connector only … 45/-
Talking Gauge. Gives audible warning with a sustained note as soon as desired pressure is reached, furthermore any excess pressure is syphoned off until pressure is exactly that set on gauge … 22/6

SUPER CHAMPION RIMS
Introduced to our range of selected quality components at the end of 1968, this French rim was well received due to its good appearance. Highly polished alloy, smoothly moulded, with neatly finished joints and spoke ferrules correctly angled for maximum strength, show the quality for which the makers are justly famous. The ‘Competition’ is a particularly fine example of alloy extrusion and is widely used by French Professional and amateur riders. With successes during 1968 including the Tour de France, Olympic medals and the Championship of France. These rims were also used by the winner of the National Cyclo Cross Championship the toughest of all tests for any rim. Sides of the Road rims are serrated for better braking when used under wet conditions. The tyre well which is deep enough to give a good seating is roughened to make a key for the rim cement. With only reasonable care taken there should be no ‘creep’ found on any tyres fitted.
Offered initially in two models only—
Competition Road. Builds into a rigid and responsive wheel, recommended for both Road races and Time Trialing. Light enough to be used with success on the track.
Weight 12½ ozs., drilled 32/40, 36/36 or 28/28 80/-
Professional Road. A slightly more robust rim made from a heavier gauge alloy. Ideally suited to Circuit and Road races, Cyclo Cross etc. where a really strong wheel is required.
Weight 14½ ozs., drilled 32/40 or 36/36 … 75/-
[A large line drawing of a section of an alloy rim, marked SUPER COMPETITION CHAMPION and with two C-shaped spoke ferrules.]
[Folio 72.]

FIAMME RIMS
So great is the popularity of this Italian rim that we have now introduced to the British Market one of the lighter models which is made from an expensive alloy that gives adequate strength in lighter gauge.
SPRINT
The rim fitted with ‘Longhi’ patent spoke seating as shown. The spoke tension is spread equally over both rim faces so that a very rigid wheel can be built to withstand the stresses of races over poor surfaces. No washers are needed under the spoke heads which ‘bed-down’ at the correct angle.
Used by many of the Continental Professionals, particularly in Italy. There are two patterns as illustrated. The Road pattern, made to combat the rigorous conditions of the Alpine Tour stages, is equally suitable for road racing and fast time trials. The lighter Track rim is of narrower section with more sharply angled side walls.
Road 14 ozs. Drilled 32/40, 36/36 or 28/28 pair 59/6
Track 12 ozs. Drilled 32/40, 36/36 or 28/28 pair 59/6
Light Road. In a lighter gauge top quality alloy which reduces the weight to 11 ozs. Suitable for fast time trialing and pursuits on good surfaces.
Light Road 11 ozs. Drilled 36/36 hole only. Pair 112/6
HIGH PRESSURE
Alloy rims weighing only 18 ozs. Specially designed to give strength and reliability. Highly polished, the alloy is scoured at the sides for better brake block grip in wet weather.
Drilled 32, 40 and 36 hole only.
Available 27″ only … 39/6

KOWALIT
KOWALIT TUBULARS
Now with CK3 Carbon
Kowalit tubulars, made in Ger-
many by one of the world’s
finest tyre companies, offer
tremendous value when price is
considered against weight. No
fabric is coarser than 60 threads
per inch, ensuring flexible and
responsive pockets.
Best quality rubber and latex are used. Double sewn
chafing tapes. Latex covered walls for protection in wet
weather.
Widely used in Eastern Europe Kowalit proved to be the
winners in ‘The Peace Race’ when punctures were
causing so much trouble to all the ‘Foreign’ teams.

KRITERIUM 9 ozs.
Lightest of the range, this
fast tyre has a fine ribbed
tread built up at its centre
—and a very light tube.
Ideal for short distance
road work … 50/-
KURIER 10.4 ozs.
Narrow section tyre with
a mixed tread of fast
centre ribs and diagonal
side tread. Good all-round
road racing tub … 47/6
KOMET ‘S’ 11 ozs.
With the fast ribbed tread
of the Kriterium this tyre
has a little more meat in it
and a slightly heavier tube.
Good quality fabric keeps
the walls in shape and
produces instant response.
45/-
[A round Kowalit logo at upper left, and three line drawings of tubular tires cut away to show the tread pattern and inner tube.]
[Folio 78.]
[Right-hand page.]
KADETT 13.4 oz.
This popular tyre now
represents unusual value
due to special arrangements
with the manufacturers
who make it possible to
reduce the price to pre-
devaluation level. De-
signed for general purpose
riding with ribbed tread
flanked by a ‘herring bone’
of diagonals. Supplied
with sturdy tube for reliable performance under the worst
conditions. We confidently expect this to be the most
popular ‘riding about’ tubular during 1969 … 29/6

‘Q’ RANGE FOR CROSS, GRASS, WINTER RIDING.
Q.H. 15 ozs.
The Q.H. has a substantial
tread and inner tube. The
coarse file pattern tread
makes this tubular very
useful, being suitable for
Cycle-Cross on firm cir-
cuits, general riding, and
training purposes 41/-
Q.S. 14.5 ozs.
Replacing the earlier
‘spiky’ tyre the ‘dog leg’
pattern has proved to
last longer on the ‘hard’
sections whilst perform-
ing well on ‘soft’ sur-
faces. Wide spacing of
the tread helps to keep
the tyre from becoming
mud bound … 50/-
Q.V. 14.5 ozs.
The most specialised Cyclo-
Cross tyre of all. The
‘cross bars’ of the ‘T’ give
traction on muddy and
loose surfaces, and the
uprights resist lateral slip.
50/-
[Four line drawings of tubular tires cut away to show the tread, each with a different tread pattern.]

D’Alessandro
Regd. Trade Mark
GOLD
MEDAL
TUBULARS

Acknowledged the finest quality tubular in the World.
SILK IMPERFORABILE 8 oz. Fast ribbed or file
tread.
The most famous of all tubulars, has the tread, hand
moulded to an amber band, re-inforced by a canvas
‘breaker’ strip to produce the most puncture resistant
combination known. An ultra-light tube adds to the
speed imparted by silk fabric at a price that belies the
sheer quality of the ‘pocket’.
Fantastic value at only 89/6

IMPERFORABILE 9¾ oz. Fast
Ribbed or File Tread
Recognised as the finest of all
‘distance’ tyres. A top grade
‘pocket’, of Sea Island cotton,
carries a very hard rubber tread which combines with
elastic raw rubber band and canvas breaker strip, to give
amazing durability and puncture resistance … 69/6
SILK CRITERIUM 7¾ oz. Fast Ribbed Tread.
A first class short distance tyre with finely ribbed tread
band for maximum speed. A top quality pocket with
very light tube gives instant
response and extra ‘life’ for
short distance road or mixed
track work … 75/-

CRITERIUM 8½ oz.
A first rate tyre for general
racing. The pocket made from
cotton fabric incorporating best
quality linen thread of fine
gauge closely laid at the right
angle to balance the fine ribbed
tread band designed for fast road work. Resilient as
many tyres of lighter weight, will keep its shape and
wear well … 65/-
[A script logo reading D’Alessandro at the top, and three line drawings of tubular tires cut away to show the tread, pocket and inner tube.]
[Folio 80.]
[Right-hand page.]
GIRO D’ITALIA 10 oz.
Top quality racing tyre with
the same pocket as the
Imperf. and a hard black
tread of the same type, that
extends well down the side
wall. Slightly larger in
section with a very light
tube producing a really fast
tyre.
Chosen by the Holdsworth/Campagnolo Professional
team for its reliability over mixed courses … 62/6
SUPER 10½ oz.
A middle priced tyre with
an amber band similar to
that on the Imperforabile
but with a lighter tread on
the heavier pocket required
for vulcanizing. A fast
narrow section combines
with fine ribbed tread to
make a livelier tyre than is
usually found at the price.
Good value for general road
racing and reliable over the
longer distances … 59/6

SPORT SPECIALISSIMO
A good class tyre in the
mid weight range. Round
in section with a light tube
for extra zip. Tread is
taken well down the sides
making this particularly suit-
able for circuit and early
season racing of all types
when safe cornering is all
important. 11 ozs. 47/6

LEONE 13½ oz.
Reintroduced to our range,
at a slightly heavier weight,
this tyre was the most popu-
lar of all general purpose
tubulars. A fine mixed tread
gives extra stability on wet
corners and a good quality
pocket will keep its shape.
Hard wearing tread, will
give value for only 39/6
[Four line drawings of tubular tires cut away to show the different tread patterns.]
[Folio 81.]

— Page 45 —
D’Alessandro WORTHY 15½ oz.
A tough tubular for general winter riding, saves the cost
of a pair of HP wheels for the man who rides sprints
all summer. Recommended when road conditions are
bad, allowing safe cornering on wet or icy roads. The
bold diamond patt. tread extends well down the sides
of a fully rubbered wall of oversize section. A good
buy for that summer tour or early training for the really
keen … 42/6

NUOVO ALBERTO 12 oz.
Designed especially for the Holdsworthy Co. by one of
the leading Italian tubular manufacturers to meet the
need for a narrow tyre in the lower price range. Based
on a very small round
pocket of good class
fabric the tyre is com-
pleted as a top grade
model. Stitching is cover-
ed by linen protection to
prevent the tube pushing
between the threads to
cause a burst, which is a common failing of narrow
section tyres with fairly heavy pockets. The tread is
of first class hard black rubber tough enough to with-
stand general riding on the very narrow strip in
contact with the road. Fast and lively as only a narrow
tubular can be, keep inflated hard at all times. 37/6
