AIDS TO HAPPY CYCLING
This little booklet has now been published for many years, and I have pleasure in presenting the 1953 Edition.
More than thirty years have now passed since I first endeavoured to meet the requirements of keen Cyclists—the Racing man (and woman), Club riders and Tourists, and I have now gathered around me a most efficient and knowledgeable staff.
The many ” Worthy ” and ” Allez ” articles mentioned herein are the result of this collaboration. The other proprietary lines have been selected to give the best service, and at the same time, be in reasonable supply.
We regret we must state that owing to present conditions, prices are liable to alteration without notice. All prices include Tax in the few cases where payable.

VITESSE RACING SHOE
The ” Vitesse ” made specially for racing rapidly made its mark in 1951. The requirements of a racing shoe are suppleness, soft upper and lightness. The ” Vitesse ” is made on the dancing pump principle, being a ” turned ” shoe.
Made inside-out, the sole is stitched to the upper and then ” turned “. This gives unsurpassed suppleness.
The upper is of black fully-chromed box calf, with tan fancy trimming. Weight (size 8) only 15 oz. 42/6

The World’s Amateur Pursuit Championship was won on these tyres and the Dutch National Professional team has used them throughout the season including the Tour de France. Many other famous riders pin their faith to D’ALESSANDRO including Sacchi and Ghella; whilst Koblet writes: ” I consider that much of my success has been due to the products of the D’Alessandro factory “. In Britain many of the well-known Amateurs continue to buy these tyres and several outstanding rides have been accomplished upon them during the past season.
The following augmented range will, I am sure, further extend their popularity during 1953 and, in addition, will meet all pockets.

IMPERFORABILE. The “unpuncturable” tubular. Well, not quite of course, but the exceedingly elastic raw rubber band between the tread and the base effectively prevents flints, thorns, etc., penetrating. Cunningly woven from Sea Island Cotton fabric with a light pure rubber inner tube this tyre can be relied upon for many miles of racing. Weight 9¾ ozs. Usually with file pattern tread but can be supplied with matt tread … … … … … … … 79/6

WHEELS
Now there are wheels and wheels—Holdsworth’s are the last word. All these wheels are the result of careful attention to detail. Not built on ” Piece Work ” rates, or in spare time.
They are built in Holdsworth’s workshops, by experienced mechanics, with only one end in view, and that is—a perfect wheel.
Ask the man who rides them, and while they may have equals, as far as workmanship, materials and general finish are concerned, Holdsworth wheels can have NO superiors. Just try a pair.
BUILD UP the price of the wheels you require by taking the price of the hubs and rims and adding 24/- for double-butted spokes and building. Example:—

NOTES RE ENAMELLING
As a lustre finish shows up all the imperfections in the metal of a frame, you are strongly advised to specify an enamel finish to frames which are rust-pitted or to cheap grade frames, as it tends to “cover up” better.
Other makers’ transfers will be fitted to frames during renovation if requested, where these are obtainable, and they will be charged at net cost. The majority of the makers will supply transfers, exceptions being Hetchins, Hercules, and the Raleigh group.
NOTES WHEN SENDING FRAMES
You need not strip off the old enamel. All accessories should be removed, and all interiors if possible. (We will remove interiors you cannot manage).
Pad and pack adequately for transit. Send in a light crate if possible, otherwise fit pieces of wood or wheel spindles with locknuts between front and rear fork ends to avoid squashing.
Forward by road carrier or rail. Send by ” Company’s risk “, in case of a claim for damages. If rail is used, we recommend the passenger train service to avoid unnecessary delay.
Include your name and address with frame and advise despatch by post.
Frames and forks will be returned to you per passenger train or carrier at company’s risk. A charge of 3/- will be made to any address in Great Britain or Northern Ireland. Frames will be sent well protected or in a crate if possible. (Crates should be returned immediately per the same transport or a charge of £1 0s. 0d. will be made.)
In the event of any damage being sustained in transit, you should sign ” Received damaged “, notify the carriers or your Railway Station WITHIN THREE DAYS and ask them to inspect.
