Establishing the name in the very early days – exhibiting an impressive range of cycles at The Lightweight Show in 1936.
The mid 1950’s and stage racing is becoming a recognised part of the British cycling scene. At that period, Hetchins and the Romford R.C. enjoyed a close tie up; the photograph shows one of their riders taking the “first into Scotland” prime during the Tour of Britain.

MAGNUM OPUS
Hetchin’s, perhaps the most famous and best respected marque in British frame building is still enjoying wide popularity amongst discerning cyclists who want their machines to stand out from the rest.
HETCHIN’S
[This sheet is the outer spread of the brochure: the left page is the back cover and the right page is the front cover. The left page (back cover) carries two black-and-white photographs, each with its caption reversed white out of a black box. The upper photograph shows the Hetchin’s stand at the 1936 show: a large group of lightweight cycles, some with dropped handlebars and some with flat bars and mudguards, stands on a raised platform with price cards and “SOLD” tickets, under a fascia board lettered “THE DISCRIMINATING CYCLE MAKER”, “Hetchin’s” in large script, “THE FASTEST CYCLE BUILT FOR ROAD OR PATH”, “Head Office, 798-800, Seven Sisters Rd, Tottenham. N.15.”, “STAND 40” and “Works, 461, Lea Bridge Rd, Leyton, E.10.”; the neighboring board reads “CYCLO GE” and “CYCLE WORKS, POTTERS HILL, AS”, both cut off by the edge of the picture, and smaller boards for the National Clarion Cycling Club and T. Higgins & Son hang on the back wall. The lower photograph shows road racers in club jerseys riding past a car with a press photographer and a tripod camera standing on its roof and a motorcyclist behind; the leading rider’s handlebars carry a plate lettered “DAILY EXPRESS” above a card reading in part “COMIN” and “YOUR WAY”. A red band across the foot of the left page carries a four-line address block reversed in white. A later owner has struck through everything in it except “/HETCHIN’S” with heavy black marker, so the word or words before the slash and the three lines below cannot be read, and has written “Firma erloschen.” in blue ink just below the band. The right page (front cover) carries a color photograph, against a blue backdrop, of a bare frame and fork captioned MAGNUM OPUS: green enameled main tubes with chrome-plated stays and fork, ornate lugs lined in red and gold, a banded seat tube with a shield transfer, a shield head badge, “HETCHINS” in shaded capitals along the down tube and curved seat stays and chainstays. A boxed paragraph overlaps the lower left corner of the photograph, and the name HETCHIN’S in large red shaded decorative capitals sits above the plain red band that runs across the foot of both pages. Faint mirror-image show-through from the reverse of the sheet is visible at the right edge of the front cover.]

HETCHIN’S FAMOUS FOR FRAMES, LUGS OF DISTINCTION AND INCOMPARABLE FINISHES
The name Hetchin’s is synonymous with top-class bicycles worldwide and reflects the image of quality, excellent design and superb finish that has been associated with this famous trademark for nearly 60 years of continues production. Hetchin’s traditionally represents the pinnacle of the custom frame builder’s art, and this began in England in 1934 when Hyman Hetchin and framemaker Jack Denny collaborated to build the first unique, handmade lightweight frames.
1987 marked the launch of a revitalised and expanded company. Hetchin’s offers unbeatable workmanship on a uniquely British champion bike. It’s traditional design is 100 percent compatible with current components, providing a tight comfortable ride with the ultimate in style and elegance. It’s every serious cyclists dream to own a Hetchin’s.
In recent years the marque has been continued by Jackson Cycles of Leeds. Master frame builder Danny Foster is entrusted with maintaining the same standards of manufacture as those formulated by Jack Denny.
Ornate hand-filed lugs and patented curved rear stays are still the distinctive hallmarks of todays Hetchin’s.
There is and always has been a Hetchin’s ‘look’. Defined by intricate hand-cut lugs, stylish use of chrome and paint, and the unique “Vibrant Triangle”. The bowed seatstays and ‘curly’ chainstays constitute Jack Denny’s method for adding shock-absorbing comfort to the rear triangle without decreasing lateral stiffness through the use of lighter-gauge tubing. In effect, the rear triangle is raked, enabling it to flex like a fork on rough roads.

Have your Hetchin’s brought back to its former glory
Our expert staff offer a complete repair and restoration service for your vintage Hetchin’s frame. This can include chrome plating (at our discretion); lug lining, box lining, transfers and cast head badges.
[Inside spread with three color photographs on a blue backdrop. The red heading and the three introductory paragraphs begin on the left page and run across the gutter onto the right page, set in one wide measure across the top. The left page carries two overlapping photographs: a close view of a black head tube with ornate pierced lugs lined in gold, chrome-plated headset cups and a cast head badge (a red scroll lettered HETCHINS above a shield bearing a red cross with two lion supporters, a scroll lettered CYCLES and a winged roundel lettered TOTTENHAM around a small bicycle) above a fork crown with lined ornamental points; and a close view of a black seat cluster with gold-lined ornate lugs, the maker’s name in script on the seat stay, “Magnum Opus” in script on the top tube, a Reynolds tubing transfer (its lettering partly turned out of view) on the seat tube and blue and gold bands below it. The descriptive paragraphs on the hand-filed lugs and the “Vibrant Triangle” sit below these pictures at the foot of the left page. The right page carries a photograph of the rear triangle of a black frame with a blue banded seat tube bearing a shield transfer and a small multicolored band, bowed seat stays and curved (curly) chainstays running from the rear dropouts to a lined bottom bracket shell. Below it the restoration notice is set in black on a solid red panel.]

Photograph 3 straddles the center fold: a complete orange-red frame and fork with light blue head tube and seat tube panels banded in red, a large ornamental H on the head tube panel, “HETCHINS” along the down tube and straight (orthodox) seat stays and chainstays. The numbered key is set below photograph 3, beginning on the left page and running across the fold. SCORPION BONUM
[Inside spread with three captioned photographs of bare frames and forks. The heading runs across the top of both pages between two red rules, with red hyphens between the four words. The left page carries the introductory paragraph at upper left, the name HETCHIN’S in red shaded decorative capitals over the words CUSTOM BUILT FRAME SETS in black on two lines, and at the bottom a photograph on a blue backdrop captioned NOVUS DUCTOR above it: a gray metallic frame and fork with a black head tube panel, a black seat tube panel with silver bands, a shield transfer and a small multicolored band, a small rectangular transfer near the top of the seat tube, “HETCHINS” in shaded capitals along the down tube, curved (curly) seat stays and chainstays and bright rear dropouts. The largest picture, captioned MAGNUM OPUS DELUXE, is cut out on the white page and straddles the gutter, with the head tube and fork on the left page and the rest of the frame on the right page: an orange-red frame with a green head tube panel, green and gold bands with a shield transfer and a small multicolored band on the seat tube, “HETCHINS” along the down tube, ornate lined lugs and chrome-plated fork blade ends and rear stay ends; its stays look straight in this view. The caption also runs across the gutter. The right page carries a second cut-out picture at lower right captioned SCORPION BONUM: a blue frame and fork with white head tube and seat tube panels banded in blue, a shield transfer and a small rectangular transfer on the seat tube, an oval plate at the seat cluster, “HETCHINS” along the down tube and straight (orthodox) seat stays and chainstays.]

HETCHIN’S TANDEMS
A revival in tandem cycling has prompted Jacksons to offer you the rare chance of owning a Hetchin’s Vibrant ‘Twicer’. Always a much sought after machine, even the early models are extremely difficult to locate now.
The current design includes the famous Hetchin’s vibrant stays extended to the lateral tubes, offering you the ultimate in tandem comfort.
Lug design is to your choice and can be as ornate as the Magnum Opus Deluxe if you so desire.
Framesets or complete machines available to individual customer specification.

Jackson cycles are proud to continue the Hetchin’s tradition and will be pleased to discuss specifications, answer questions or provide quotations. Please call in, telephone or write, the details are overleaf.
[A two-page spread over a red band that runs across the foot of both pages. At upper left the red Tuscan-style HETCHIN’S wordmark stands beside the black heading TANDEMS, with the text below it. Two color photographs on a green studio backdrop overlap the gutter. The larger, at upper right, shows a complete tandem frameset in red with pale blue panels on both seat tubes and the head tube, ornately cut lugs picked out in gold, HETCHINS lettered in gold along the down tube and the tube joining the two bottom brackets, Hetchins shield transfers on both seat tubes and the head tube and a 531 tubing transfer at the top of the rear seat tube. It is fitted with a chromed fork and headset and with cranks and chainrings at both bottom brackets linked by a chain, and it stands propped on a small green block under the front bottom bracket. The smaller photograph, at lower left, is a close view of the rear of the same frame: the chromed curly vibrant seat stays, chainstays and twin lateral tubes all curve into the rear dropouts, with the red paint taking over partway along each tube, and a small script Hetchins name appears on a seat stay. The closing paragraph sits at lower right under the larger photograph. Show-through of large type and text from the reverse of the leaf is faintly visible in the empty lower left corner of the left page.]

The HETCHIN’S or JACKSON can be supplied in solo, tandem or trike models and for touring or racing, built to the customer’s own specification and finish.
[A black-and-white photograph fills the upper part of the sheet above the one-line caption: a show stand under a vaulted hall roof. Its fascia board reads THE DISCRIMINATING CYCLE MAKERS at left, a large script Hetchin’s in the center and THE FASTEST CYCLE BUILT FOR ROAD OR PATH at right, with smaller script lines giving the head office at 798-800 Seven Sisters Rd. Tottenham N.15 and the works at 461 Lea Bridge Rd. Leyton E.10. Fascias of neighboring stands read …IONAL CLARION …CLING CLUB., T. HIGGINS & SON and CYCLO over CYCLE WORKS. POTTERS (cut off at the right edge); two smaller boards are illegible. A tandem with drop handlebars stands on a draped platform at left, and a row of solo machines with drop handlebars stands on a low platform in front, several facing the camera with show cards hung on them and small cards laid out on the platform. Five men in suits stand behind the machines, one in a hat and one smoking a pipe. Below the caption the red Tuscan-style HETCHIN’S wordmark heads three paragraphs of large black text, set justified.]

[A dealer price sheet in German. The letterhead, centered at the top, is a line drawing of a reclining stylized big cat over the name ‘PACE’ in widely spaced capitals, with the proprietor, address and numbers in spaced sans-serif capitals below and a heavy rule beneath. The list is set in a typewriter-style monospaced face: a title, the product group, a page number, then three columns (article number, description, price in DM) under a rule of equals signs. Four Hetchins framesets come first (Magnum Opus Deluxe at 3,190 DM, Magnum Opus at 2,690, Scorpion Bonum at 2,390 and Novus Ductor at 2,190), each with the same note that the color is to order, the headset is included and chrome is extra, followed by 13 chrome-plating options from 45 to 336 DM. A short rule closes the page near the foot. The sheet has been folded in three, and two filing-punch holes in the left margin show as black dots. There is no picture.]
