CHAMPAGNE

[A full-page ruled advertisement in black and white. The monogram “A.M.B” at the upper left is drawn in outlined capitals, and a sweep of long thin curved lines, like the arcs of wheels, runs across the whole panel behind the drawings. The headline climbs the page on a rising slant in a flowing handwritten script, in three lines. Beneath it three line engravings show fenders drawn in cut-away perspective with fine hatching and a dark inner shading: at the left two shallow rounded fender sections with open ends, one of which has a folded edge, and at the center a deeper angled fender section with a ribbed lower lip. At the lower center a large white A.M.B monogram in outlined, shadowed capitals rises from a black band that holds the firm’s name, street address and telephone number in white spaced capitals. At the right a tall rounded panel, with a black header carrying “GARDE-BOUE POUR” in white spaced capitals, holds a list set in heavy sans-serif capitals and italic, the items separated by small stars, and ends with “PRIX TRÈS ÉTUDIÉS” in a lighter weight. Along the right edge of the frame, turned sideways and set in small italic capitals, runs the name “CHAMPAGNE” as a small credit line. No other signature is visible, and no text from the reverse of the leaf shows through.]
