[A landscape panel inside a thin black rule and divided down the middle, the left third given to a drawing and the right two thirds to type. The drawing sits inside its own rounded-corner frame and is a pen line engraving: two hands come in from above and below, the upper one holding a pointed tool and pressing a small printed sheet down, the lower one steadying it from beneath, with the fingers and nails drawn in plain outline and a few hatching strokes. The sheet carries two lines of small capitals naming the brand and its registration, and below it a solid black square holds a very large numeral zero reserved in white, its upper half filled with close horizontal rule lines and its lower half left solid black so that the transfer reads as half laid down. Patches of dotted shading fill the corners of the frame. The type on the right is set in six groups separated by thin rules that run the width of the column: a heading in very large bold sans-serif capitals, a second line of bold capitals, a lighter line of capitals and lower case, then the brand in large bold capitals between raised inverted commas with its registration line under it, then three qualities in letter-spaced capitals on two lines, then two lines sending the reader to his wholesaler, and last two lines in italic capitals and bold roman giving the instruction to ask for the brand and the firm’s name, street number, street and city. No second color is used and no signature or agency mark appears. Type from the reverse of the leaf shows through plainly across the whole panel and reads upside down along the foot.]

[This advertisement shares page 178 of L’Officiel du cycle with an advertisement for JB, held here as its own record, and others for the Diamant toy motorcycle, C.P.D.M. engine reconditioning, Desreumaux stove enameling, the Gallet saddle for cyclomoteurs and Dupont’s motorized invalid tricycle.]
