ABOUT YOUR GEAR
Both Models 637/P and 637/NI operate on 3, 4, 5 and 6 Speed with chains 1/8″ or 3/32″. Total capacity of gear is 37 teeth (Front and Rear), largest size of Freewheel Sprocket 28 teeth, smallest 13 teeth.
Both Models will give satisfaction in racing, sport, touring as well as faithful service if treater with care. DONT interfere with the gear tension springs. They are set correctly. DONT use a chain with a sping link, the chain must be rivet fixed. If the rear Fork end is out if line, the gear will be out of line, BUT, DONT Repeat. DONT attempt to staighten it by using the gear as a lever ; you will break the gear without straightening the fork end.

FITTING YOUR GEAR…(Step by step)
— Make sure rear fork end is parallel to chainwheel. Use steel tool to correct as required or see your Dealer.
— Wheel out, Fit gear to Fork end. Tighten screw 503 (MOD. P). For MOD. NI, read also overleaf. Verify gear cage is parallel to chainring. Put wheel on.
— Fit lever unit to frame (Down) Tube, R/H side. Secure clip firmly (height of lever Assembly to suit your reach). Leave lever in position parallel to Frame Tube. Run cable towards gear, secure outer casing to Frame Tube (Clips or Tape), avoiding sharp bends.
— Adjust Top screw Ref. 2979 so that Rollers of Derailling cage are brought in line with the teeh of the smaller sprocket of Freewheel.
— Thread cable through hole (at top of gear) and fit end of outer casing into hollow provided. Unscrew Ref. 2639 and fit cable between washers. Pull tight on extremity of cable and tighten cable screw Ref. 2639 firmly. Allow adequate length of loop at outer casing for free movement of Mechanism.
— Unscrew Bottom adjuster screw Ref 2979. By operating lever, move derailling cage to larger Sprocket and align gear roller to teeth of larger sprocket. Hold Mechanism in this position and screw in Bottom adjuster screw Ref. 2979 as far as it will go, without forcing (or altering position of cage).
— Turn gear cage by hand one third of a turn to bring it to a horizontal position. Insert chain between Rollers from top down. Release Cage. Fit chain onto larger Sprocket and onto larger Chainring.
— Pull ends of chain towards each other firmly, pulling Mechanism forward. Ascertain lengh of chain at this position. Add 3 links to this length and this will be the correct length of chain. RIVET CHAIN.
— Operate gear Mechanism with lever on all speeds and make final adjustments to screws Ref 2979 If need be.
Callouts: 503 2645 2639 2979
MOST IMPORTANT, Make Sure that when lever is pulled fully towards you, the derailling cage lines up with the larger Sprocket and will go no further.
MAINTENANCE Keep gear clean and occasionally lubricate with Cycle Oil all Moving parts of gear Mechanism. Roller Axies and between friction washers of lever.

— Fit Mechanism on Seat Tube, leaving screws 2292 slightly loose.
— Fit Derailling cage to Mechanism, leaving screw 1107 slightly loose.
— Move Mechanism (Up or down on Seat Tube), until you obtain correct height position (when Derailling cage clears the teeth of the larger Ring when changing).
— Move Mechanism side ways (without altering height) until cage is parallel with Chainring. Tighten fixing screws 2292 firmly.
— Position chain onto smaller chainring and align the Derailling cage by sliding it on its axle, so that the chain fits centre inside the cage. Tighten firmly Screw 1107. Verify that cage has remained parallel to chainring.
— Fit Lever Unit to Frame Tube. Leave lever in position parallel to Frame Tube. Run cable towards front changer, secure outer casing to Frame tube (clips or Tape), avoiding sharp bends.
