‘Randonneuse’ 2004
A Blend of all that’s best
A direct descendant of the famous 2002 used successfully in the Tour de France. This model is
unique of its kind in combining a high degree of comfort while affording unhindered leg-action and
pedalling efficiency. This is what the weekend rider has been waiting for.
* Best quality hide cover — black or natural.
* Best type padding — latex-foam 15 mm thick.
* Best synthetic (RILSAN) top.
* Best type clip (No. 2) with provision for fine adjustment.
270 × 150 mm, weight: with steel frame and clip 645 gm; without clip 488 gm; with titanium frame
and clip 425 gm; without clip 335 gm.
IE A6745/58/59
No. 88 Competition Speciale
The classical form and feel associated with racing and long distance riding, in softened leather
with large diameter copper rivets and plated two-wire frame. Most attractive and with unsurpassed
comfort. The top is Rebour hand treated. 260 × 150 mm, 500 gm.
IE A6622
No. 92 Diagonale KR
The same high quality as No. 90 with the leather top treated by extra slow tanning. Most important
is the size, 2 cm wider across the flatter cantle plate and 1 cm longer, it affords the utmost
comfort for those who pedal long distances. This saddle is a return to the old style but with the
popular modern large rivets and with the top softened by the famous exclusive Rebour method, no
breaking-in is required. Fitted with No. 2 clip.
Gents 270 × 170 mm; Ladies 230 × 170 mm. 750 gm.
IE A6625 (Gents)
IE A6626 (Ladies)
Saddle Cover
The IDEALE cover is made in translucent plastic with elasticated edge and will fit all models of
sports saddles. It will protect your saddle top from the weather and your trouser seat from contact
with greasy leather and at the same time give no hindrance to pedalling action. Remember, IDEALE
products have been famous since 1890 — a recommendation in itself.

[One leaf, page 16, from Ron Kitching’s Everything Cycling, the Harrogate wholesale catalog that was
the route almost every continental component took into British club cycling. The page is given
entirely to Idéale, and the marque’s own name never appears in a heading: the heading is
Recommended Accessories, and the endorsement is Kitching’s.
Down the left edge runs a column of ten roundels, eight of them the Idéale head badge and one at
each end reading RON KIT ACCESSORIES RECOMMENDED. Every entry carries an IE stock code.
The range is the late one. The Series Racing plastics, 2000 to 2003, run from a Rilsan top through a
hide-covered de luxe to a latex-foam version and finally to an all-chrome model offered in natural,
suede or plaid, with a titanium option saving 43 percent. Then the leather classics: the 80 Record
and 80 Speciale, the 90 and the 90R with its duralumin frame at 500 grams and the claim to be the
lightest in the world, the 88 and the 92 Diagonale KR.
Daniel Rebour is named four times, and not as an illustrator. The hand-treated softening process
that removes the need to break a saddle in is credited to him by name and called the famous
exclusive Rebour method, and the Randonneuse 2004 is sold as a direct descendant of the 2002 used
in the Tour de France. The Ebykr archive holds Rebour’s drawings elsewhere; here he is a
specification.
Every weight is given in grams and every dimension in millimeters, but no price appears anywhere on
the page. The page prints no date.]
