[Four leaves from one Tron & Berthet catalog, held here as a single record: the title page and pages
6, 10 and 11. The printer’s job number 91407 for Paul Duval of Elbeuf is set at the foot of page 11
and the four sheets share one typography and one border.

The title page is a company statement rather than a cover. Manufacture de Selles pour Cycles, house
founded in 1890, Tron & Berthet of Pont-Saint-Pierre in the Eure, telephone number 11. Two enamel
badges are reproduced side by side, both lens-shaped with an F at one end and a T at the other:
IDÉALE and ELAEDY, each marque déposée. Beneath them is the Dunlop label and the claim to
exclusivity of Dunlop tops. Four agents are named, one for Paris, one for the provinces at Saint-
Étienne, one for Belgium at Uccle and one for Spain, at Carcassonne in the Aude rather than in
Spain itself.

Page 6 is the racing page and the most interesting sheet of the four. Its banner claim is the only
French saddle adopted by the aces, and its patented feature is set out in three numbered points: a
single attachment point at the crescent, the crescent oscillating square to the frame so the
leather cannot tear away, and special rivets with the tension left accessible. Then the page does
something unusual. It sets IDÉALE, ELAEDY and NORTEX side by side in three columns under the word
QUALITÉS and states plainly which grade of leather each gets: first-choice croupon for Idéale,
first-choice for Elaedy, good quality for Nortex, with the patented chariot on the first two and a
plain No. 1 chariot on Nortex. Where a model is not made in a given grade the cell says so, Ne se
fait pas. This is a maker publishing its own hierarchy of brands in one table, with the same model
numbers running across.

Pages 10 and 11 are the Dunlop range, the rubber-topped saddles sold under the joint name Idéale-
Dunlop. Their claim is the opposite of the leather one: rain and mud get no purchase, and the top
still looks like leather. The models run from road and touring through heavy-duty, racing and
ladies patterns and out to three-point motorcycle saddles, and the smallest and largest things on
the two pages are 0.27 by 0.15 meters and 0.33 by 0.38.

The prices are left blank throughout, with Prix : printed and nothing after it, so the catalog was
issued to be used with a separate tariff.

[Six further leaves of the same catalog were added to this record on 2026-08-05, taking it from four
pages to ten: pages 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9. With the title page and the pages 6, 10 and 11 already
held, the book now runs unbroken from page 3 to page 11.

They come from the same seam as the first four, the images attached to the Ebykr model guide on
Idéale saddles, and they were matched to this catalog rather than to any other on the pages
themselves: the same QUALITÉS banner, the same three-column IDÉALE / ELAEDY / NORTEX comparison
with Ne se fait pas in the empty cells, the same rule-and-border treatment, the same blank Prix :
throughout, and consecutive page numbers reading 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 with no gap. Page 11
carries the printer’s job number 91407 for Paul Duval of Elbeuf, which is what tied the first four
leaves together.

Page 3 is the men’s road range and it opens with the key to the whole book, a boxed statement of LA
QUALITÉ that ranks the three marques in one breath: Idéale is delivered in croupon leather, Elaedy
in first-choice, Nortex in good quality. Everything else in the catalog is that ranking applied
model by model. Page 4 is the heavy-duty range and page 5 the vélo-moteur, cyclo-touring and tandem
saddles, including the No. 63 type Chanteloup. Page 7 is the lightest material in the book: a
racing saddle in ultra-light metal at about 550 grammes, a super-allégée at about 430 grammes with
pierced skirts, and the No. 57 type Critérium des Alpes, with a note that the Nos. 63 and 64 could
also be ordered in ultra-light metal under the reference Record. Pages 8 and 9 are the ladies’
saddles and then the children’s, down to the No. 134 at 0.18 by 0.15 meters, the smallest thing in
the catalog.

Two details are worth flagging because they are the sheets speaking rather than the archive. The
No. 20 on page 8 is set as IDEALE, without the accent every other entry carries. And page 9 shows
two cushioned ladies’ saddles whose badges read Idéale T.B. 13 and Idéale T.B. 12, the maker’s own
initials worked into the model badge.

Page 5 is held here from the two-color scan, red and black as printed, rather than from the
grayscale copy of the same leaf that also survives in the archive. Four other leaves in that
grayscale set — pages 6, 10 and 11 and the title page — duplicate sheets already held at higher
resolution and were not ingested.]
