Jan Raas, former World Champion and the Raleigh Team’s most prolific Classic winner, writes:

The nominal frame size is the measurement from the top of the seat tube (where the saddle fits into the frame) down to the centre of the bottom bracket axle (the axle which carries the pedal cranks).

THE 531 STORY
Reynolds 531 is the famous light-weight Manganese Molybdenum alloy tubing proven over many years of cycle racing. It features the double butting process which allows for lightness while maintaining strength where it matters – at the lugs.

Raleigh uses a range of TI Reynolds tubing – 753 and the new 531 Professional and 501 Cromalloy M, but 531 continues to be the optimum material for most bikes.

The Rapide is a top-specification bike for the enthusiast. The main-frame is of double butted 531 with variable racing geometry, with sloping-crown front forks and Gipiemme forged ends. Wheels are light-weight Weinmann alloy with small-flange QR hubs. Handlebars are SR Custom engraved bend, with black translucent plastic tape and stopped with white rubber plugs. 501 TUBING
TI Reynolds have developed a new tubing for the sports frame – 501 Chromalloy M.
501 is super-light and super-strong, made from Chrome Molybdenum with a high Manganese content and it out-performs all competitive tubing in its category. As with other TI Reynolds tubing used in our range, it is double-butted for lightness and strength.

SILHOUETTE 5 AND 10

A bike for all seasons – and all occasions. It’s light and well-equipped but beautifully styled. Raleigh’s controlled carbon high-tensile steel frame makes it ideal for day to day commuting. Five- or ten-speed Positron gears with stem mounted lever. Positron allows you to pre-select the gear even if you are stationary. The lever goes into position with a positive, audible click. On ten-speed models, the gear-teeth on the rear sprocket are specially profiled to let the chain ride easily up from gear to gear. Narrow-section mudguards in shatter-proof, laminated plastic.

RALEIGH FRAME SETS

Raleigh’s range of frame sets has been revised to take in the experience of the TI Raleigh Campagnolo Professional Racing Team in 1982, when they were victorious in five European Classics and so collected the World Cup Team Championship yet again. Close collaboration between the Team and our craftsmen results in continual improvement of our frame sets.

OFF THE PEG

GRAN COURSE
Built in TI Reynolds 531 Competition Set with variable geometry. Tange New Levin headset, Davis narrow sloping internal fork crown with Gipiemme forged ends and chrome-plated bearing surfaces. New Shaded Blue finish.
In four frame sizes from 54.5cm (21½”) to 62cm (24½”).

GRAN TOUR
73° parallel frame in TI Reynolds 531 tubing. Tange CMA 60 headset. Vagner fork crown. Sun Tour forged ends. Frame and fork in Gloss Black with 10″ chrome ends.
Choice of four frame sizes from 54cm (21″) to 64cm (25″).

TEAM PROFESSIONAL
Reynolds 531 Competition tubing with variable geometry and “shot-in” backstays. Campagnolo headset. Large, oval-blade forks. Vitus Arcor fork crown. Campagnolo forged ends. All bearing surfaces are chrome-plated. In 8 frame sizes from 52cm (20½”) to 64.5cm (25½”). Team colours.

Both 753 and 531 Pro tubing frames are offered to time trials specification.

Built of 531 Pro tubing. Sizes from 50cm to 60.5cm in 5mm increments. All geometry and brazed-on fittings optional. Wide range of colours including the famous Team colours.
