AUTOMOTO

[A full-page advertisement, the inside back cover, printed in black, green and red on pale paper. Green horizontal stripes run down the left edge, broken into short blocks below. A white card set at a tilt across the upper left carries “la gamme” and “1955” in black brush script with “AUTOMOTO” between them in red sans serif capitals, the company’s trademark below it, a round device with three curving points, drawn in black outline. The model list fills the left column in a small condensed sans serif, each model code in bold, the three section heads in bold condensed capitals with a red triangle before each, and the closing line about the bicycle range set in heavy condensed lowercase. The right column holds three black-framed halftone photographs on gray grounds, each with a white lozenge naming the model in red: a cyclemotor with a step-through frame and an enclosed engine, a light motorcycle with a tank, deep mudguards and an enclosed chain, and a heavier motorcycle with a four-stroke engine, telescopic fork and rear suspension. The firm’s name and the Saint-Étienne and Paris addresses are reversed out in pale letters in a black panel with a curved edge at the lower left, and “AUTOMOTO” runs very large in black capitals across a red band at the lower right. A small agency mark sits at the lower left among the green stripes: an octagon holding a figure blowing a trumpet whose body forms a letter B.]
