PUB. J. BONROY

[A long, shallow advertisement in black on cream, its ground broken into two dark bands of grainy black that run across the width and end in points toward a jagged cream starburst. Fine white line drawings of workshop tools are set along both bands: across the top a ring tool with a lever, a threaded union, a chain rivet extractor, a strap clamp with a wing screw and a flat spanner; across the foot a pair of strap pliers, a slotted spanner, a two-legged puller, a long extractor with a knurled body and a hexagonal ring spanner. Several of the tools are stamped “VAR,” and one carries a line of lettering too small to read beneath its stamp. The stock claim is reversed out of the upper band at its right end in bold spaced sans-serif, and “TOUT VOTRE OUTILLAGE MOTO ET CYCLE…” runs between the bands in bold italic spaced capitals. The catalog offer is reversed in condensed type at the right of the lower band. At the right a tilted cream panel carries “VAR” in very large heavy sans-serif capitals, with the address, telephone and Métro station set slanting beneath it in condensed capitals and lowercase. The agency credit “PUB. J. BONROY” runs upward in tiny reversed capitals at the lower right edge. No artist’s signature appears on the drawings.]
