Every cyclist knows that a steel parallelogram arm of a gear lacks rigidity when twisted sideways, also, when a steel arm is involved in a cycling accident it is usually damaged beyond repair. At the Paris Cycle Show a machine was installed to demonstrate the startling strength, rigidity and resilience of the Parallelogram Arm of the Prestige Gear.
The Prestige Arm was hooked to the machine which was fitted with a dial graduated from 0 to 60 degrees. Applying powerful leverage, (the arm is most rigid), the Prestige Arm was twisted from 0 up to 60 degrees in one direction, then in the other, making a total of 120°. Anyone and everyone was invited to carry out this test . . . and did. Invariably the gear arm returned to 0 degree which is the correct operating position, . . . Undamaged.
A similar test made with a steel parallelogram arm, twisted in one direction only, to no more than 10 degrees, resulted in a gear arm damaged beyond repair or further use.
With the Simplex Prestige gear, arm breakages as a result of current cycling accidents are a thing of the past.
