NOTTINGHAM
ENGLAND

[A dealer’s trade card carrying the Raleigh lion artwork in miniature: a cyclist rides hard to the right across an ochre plain, looking back at a lion charging after him through the scrub with its mouth open. The card is landscape, cream at the edges and foxed, with the heron badge at the lower right above the words RALEIGH and THE ALL-STEEL BICYCLE. The lower center is overprinted for the selling agent in three lines of local type, which is what makes this a piece of dealer ephemera rather than a Raleigh advertisement: the sheet was supplied to the trade and finished with each agent’s own name and address.

Hawcliffe Garage stood at Mountsorrel in Leicestershire, on the road between Leicester and Loughborough.]
