RALEIGH
Throughout the world the name Raleigh is synonymous with bicycles and framesets of the highest quality. Their design and development owe much to the company’s deep involvement in cycle sport also to Raleigh’s advanced manufacturing facilities and rigorous product testing. Thus national and international safety standards are consistently met and invariably surpassed: thus, too, customer requirements ensure innovation and styling that Raleigh have virtually made their own.
But despite such achievements, the end-product is always excellent value for money. This applies equally to bikes produced at Raleigh’s main Nottingham Factory as it does to a superb lightweight machine from the Special Lightweight Unit or a Frameset tailor-made by the Specialist Bike Development Unit at Ilkeston. Raleigh’s paramount insistence on quality is perhaps best seen in the company’s Lightweight Division. Here all frames are hand-made of world-famous Reynolds lightweight tubing. Each model is assembled and tested by a single craftsman using the latest electronic equipment. Finally, his name will appear on a special card attached to the lightweight in question, verifying his part in its creation.
THE RALEIGH 15 YEAR GUARANTEE
Every bicycle in this catalogue carries the Raleigh 15 year guarantee on frame and forks plus a 1 year guarantee on all other components. See the Raleigh Bicycle Guide for details.
The start of a finish
Quality of paint finish is the mark of a great bicycle. In our Paint Priming Plant, frames receive an initial coating of lead-free, rust-resistant paint. Elsewhere, automated processes apply paint and powder finishes of utmost durability and lasting brightness. Ensuring that your Raleigh bicycle from the top of the range racer to the budget sports bike will look good for years.
Showing the flag
The chequered flag, or flags, appears against each model featured in these pages. This is a visual guide to the performance and specification you can expect from the cycle concerned. A single flag for instance denotes a straight-forward, no-nonsense machine; six, on the other hand signifies a model embodying the most sophisticated alloy equipment with a totally lightweight frame.

PURSUIT 10
PURSUIT 10
Sleek–dark lines and the looks of a winner. That’s Pursuit, a model whose close clearance 74° parallel frame geometry is designed for speed. But then this machine was born out of Raleigh’s racing history. Wherever you ride it, you sense this pedigree. The black suede-look saddle is as smart as it is comfortable, and the hi-tec graphics are striking in the extreme. With 10-speed derailleur gear; smart Gloss Black finish.

MILK RACE SPECIAL
10 & 5
As its name implies, that great race proving ground, the Round Britain Milk Race is the inspiration for this model. For instance, the graphics are those of the Milk Race itself, and the bike has been built for fast, purposeful cycling. You’ll like the matching saddle and handlebar tape co-ordinated with the white frame finish. You’ll also appreciate the 10-speed gear that takes hills and dales in its stride. Dare we say it–this Special has “gotta lotta bottle”! Colour: Warm White finish.

LEADERS
Spot the difference? It’s in the tubing. All these Raleighs have been built of unique round-oval-round tubing. Either Reynolds 501 cromalloy-M, or Raleigh’s own 18-23. Not just a pretty shape, but designed for lightness and racing speed. Other refinements include 74° parallel close clearance frames; narrow section wheels and tyres for low rolling resistance; new sloping fork crowns; and brazed-on gear levers and front changer.
PULSAR 10
This is the first in the ‘New Generation’ of sports racers. A racing model bred ‘to go’, with its 10-speed gear, concealed brake cables, and unique water bottle. A sleek, streamlined, aero style machine, Pulsar comes in glistening Pearl Silver with Shark Grey shading. Ride it, show it off, and let the rest of the world stand by in envy…

The Raleigh SBDU not only builds framesets for the out and out race professional in the ultra light Reynolds 753 tubing, the super tough 531 or 501, but also for those cyclists who really want the very best–from sporting cyclist to casual tourer.
All frames are individually built to order to your own measurements–so that you get a perfectly balanced, perfectly crafted frame made to measure. Almost everything imaginable is available and possible from brazed-on fittings to low profile road or track machines.
Why not visit the SBDU at Ilkeston to make sure the frame you order is exactly the right size. As you can see by the illustration all of the angles are critical–and seldom are they the same for people of the same height because of varying leg length, trunk length, arm length etc.
What you see here is the 753 “Services des Courses” road frame, the definitive frame for competition at International level–ridden all over the world by thousands of professionals as well as discerning club riders.
The lugs, fork crown, and bottom bracket are Cinelli, the tubing is the finest Reynolds 753R (also available in 531C) the choice is yours depending on your budget. The frame is available with a full complement of braze-ons and in all colours in the range from gloss enamels, pearlescents, metallic and semi-chrome.
Phone for a quotation or ask your local dealer.
Full details are available from the SBDU.
