Raleigh is proud of the range presented in this catalogue.
It is a range designed to meet everyone’s needs, from custom-built framesets developed in the Specialist Bicycle Development Unit, to a boy’s first racer.
The catalogue has been divided into sections so that you can easily find the model you are looking for.
It has been impossible to list all specification details against each model. We decided instead to show close-ups of some of the main features on the range and to provide summary specification tables for the relevant models within each section.

Whichever model you choose, it has been influenced by the years of Race-bred experience within Raleigh, none more so than the models built in the Lightweight Unit.
THE LIGHTWEIGHT UNIT
The Lightweight Unit, which was opened in 1981, is independent of the main Raleigh factory.
Within it are built all the Raleigh models which feature TI Reynolds 531 tubing.
The individual expertise of the small hand-picked team has been combined with the most up-to-date technology in a unit which is justifiably proud of its product.
The framesets and bikes are built by hand and finally assembled by the craftsman who will put his name to every model for which he is responsible.
It’s your guarantee that the bike has been Handbuilt by Craftsmen.
RALEIGH TUBING MATERIALS
Raleigh use three types of tubing in the manufacture of their racing bikes – Reynolds 531, Reynolds 501 and Raleigh Controlled Carbon 18-23.
GUARANTEED BUILT WITH REYNOLDS 531c FORK BLADES, STAYS & BUTTED FRAME TUBES — Manufactured by TI REYNOLDS LIMITED, England.
Reynolds 531 is the famous lightweight Manganese Molybdenum alloy tubing proven over many years of cycle racing. It features the double-butting process which allows for lightness whilst maintaining strength where it matters – at the lugs.
GUARANTEED BUILT WITH REYNOLDS 501 CROMALLOY-M BUTTED FRAME TUBES — Manufactured by TI REYNOLDS LIMITED, England.
In 1983, TI-Reynolds developed a new tubing for the sports frame – 501 cromalloy M.
501 is super-light and super-strong, made from Chrome Molybdenum with a high Manganese content and it out-performs all competitive tubing in its category. As with other TI Reynolds tubing used in our range, it is double-butted for lightness and strength.
GUARANTEED BUILT WITH HIGH TENSILE 18-23 CONTROLLED CARBON CYCLE TUBING — RALEIGH
Controlled Carbon 18-23 is high tensile tubing, which allows us to achieve a balance between strength, weight and fatigue resistance on finished bicycle frames.
Tests have shown 18-23 to be 30-40% stronger than other bicycle tubing. This allows us to make considerable weight savings by reducing the tube thickness, whilst maintaining and controlling the strength and fatigue resistance of the finished frame.
In other words – more strength for less weight.

A handbuilt competition or club machine, the Competition has been slightly revised for the new season.
The variable geometry frame built throughout from Reynolds 531C tubing now includes ‘shot-in’ backstays amongst its many features.

Raleigh announce a new generation of Sports bikes designed for speed and style. The new range featured here on Pages 6 and 7 is built using Raleigh’s own unique round-oval-round tubing form in Reynolds 501 cromalloy-M or Raleigh’s own 18-23 cycle tubing.
This new tube section has its major axis aligned with the vertical plane of the frame improving stiffness and responsiveness whilst retaining the lightness required for speed.
Strength is provided by Raleigh’s lugged frame construction. Where the different sections of tubing are joined, potential areas of weakness exist. Raleigh uses precision lugs to reinforce these joints providing strength where it really matters.
The result is a new frame which is light, strong and highly efficient.
