ROYAL 10
[One leaf from a Raleigh catalog of 1983, and one of the plainest sheets in this archive: a single
studio photograph of one machine on a graduated blue-grey ground, with the model name set in a
narrow band across the head of the page between two chevrons in red and yellow.
The bicycle is a dark green ten-speed touring machine photographed square on from the drive side.
It carries taped drop bars with the brake cables looped high over the stem, a black saddle, gum-wall
tires on silver rims, a double chainset, a five-sprocket freewheel and a rear derailleur with the
cable running along the top tube. Front and rear carriers are fitted, both tubular and painted to
match, and the mudguard-free build with a full rack at each end is the giveaway: this is sold as a
touring bicycle rather than a sports one.
No specification, no price and no company name appear anywhere on the leaf. The page is entirely
photograph, and the only text on it is the model name.
The year follows the Ebykr archive filing rather than anything printed on the sheet.]
