[Three leaves from the Lefol catalog of 1950, held here as one record because they are plainly one
book: the same Art Deco outline capitals in orange over black for every section head, the same
orange banner rule across the middle of each page, and one continuous part-number scheme running
from the mudguards in the eleven to twenty-four range through the mudguard fittings at 101 to 107
and on to the brake fittings at 121 to 133.

The first two leaves are the two mudguard patterns, and the difference between them is entirely
surface. Le Martelé is hammered, its whole length covered in an even field of shallow dimples that
catch the light. Le Paon is fluted, drawn in long parallel ribs that run the length of the guard.
Both are offered in exactly three widths and the widths are exactly the same: 58 to 60 mm for the
half-balloon, 53 to 55 for the road and 47 to 49 for the racing section. Both are sold in ten-tenths
of a millimeter thickness and both come with the same accessory, a two-strap chaincase in the shape
the sheet calls forme pistolet and, in brackets, pare-golf.

The carriers on the Martelé leaf are platform racks in the constructeur manner, front and rear,
made only for the half-balloon width, with the guard and the platform drawn as one assembly. Below
them on the Paon leaf are the fittings that hold all of it together: the platform sector, the stay
clamp ring, the fork-crown bolt, the complete stay clamp, stays in steel and in dural, and the
hauban.

The third leaf is the Lefol cantilever brake, and it is the piece that makes the firm interesting.
It is a cantilever in forged and polished duralumin, pulled by a straddle wire, sold in pairs with a
road or racing lever, and the two selling points are the two things a cyclotourist wants: the pad
holders
adjust easily for height, and the wheel comes out without letting the tire down. The cable run
is made to suit a ladies, mixte or cradle frame as well as a diamond one. Thirteen spare parts are
then drawn and named individually, down to the left and right return springs sold separately.

Selling a brake by naming its thirteen replaceable parts is the argument of a firm that expects the
machine to be kept, not replaced, and the Lefol name is cast into the flasque in the drawing.
