LA QUELDA
THE MOST FAMOUS WELDED CYCLE

First introduced in 1936, the “LA QUELDA” set the standard
for Welded Cycles, although often copied has never been excelled
for clean finish and perfect workmanship.
Many riders prefer the “feel” of a Welded Cycle, claiming that
their smooth running properties (shocks evenly distributed and
jars eliminated) are unique to this type of frame construction.
“531” Reynolds tubing welded and finished to absolutely clean
lines. Measurements as “CYCLONE”.

Finished in any colour Flam, Lustre or Enamel, frame lined, band to seat tube.

Frame Set – – – £13 2 6
Complete Cycle to the specification of “CYCLONE”
model, including P. Tax …. £30 4 4

TUBING.
ALL HOLDSWORTH’S frames are built from BEST BRITISH TUBING—
Reynold’s “531”, the High Carbon Steel or “KROMO” Accles and
Pollock’s Chrome Molybdenum. These produce light, responsive, but
sturdy frames and should not be confused with the much inferior tubing
used in so many of the imported Continental frames.

PRICES
In a fluctuating world we must reserve the right to make adjustments of prices
where necessary. Prices do not include carriage or packing.

[Holdsworth’s La Quelda welded cycle, a photograph of the bicycle with dropped handlebars and a rear derailleur gear, with its description and prices above a boxed note on tubing and prices. The bottom right corner is folded over, a small piece is missing from the right edge and a band of brown, apparently aged adhesive tape runs along the top edge.]

— Page 4 —
Introduced last season, this model meets the demand for a
genuine Hand-built Cycle at a figure which the youngest cyclist can
afford—even married men can manage a new bicycle at this price !
Value here is unsurpassed. These machines are made in the same
workshop which has consistently turned out cycles for a succession
of famous riders.
“A reasonably priced machine from a famous stable”.

MASSED START.

” THE JOB that needs a gen iron “.

And here it is. Built with low bracket and long back, giving stability, the popular ” box ” frame—72 parallel—makes this machine nippy, manœuvrable and safe in the tightest bunch.

Mechanical trouble is minimised by the use of Agrati ends and brazed fittings which include all types of gear and brake stops, whilst, if required, a clip for your CO2 pump can be supplied under the bottom bracket. Lamp bracket boss will not be fitted unless you really want one.

Your ” Tornado ” will have a chrome crown and can be finished to your choice in any colour flam, lustre or enamel. Lugs are lined and there is a contrasting band on the seat tube,

THE TORNADO

Frame Set – – – £15 10 0

[A cartoon of a massed start road race heads Holdsworth’s Tornado page, with a boxed drawing of a head tube with its lugs, head badge and fork crown, and the Tornado frame set price. The cartoon shows a rider with a raised fist passing a man with a checkered flag and a cheering crowd; the left edge is chipped at the top and a brown stain runs along the bottom edge.]

— Page 8 —
ROAD

RIDERS competing at all distances know that it is essential to have a comfortable as well as a fast position.

This design with its 73° head and 71° seat tubes enables such a position to be found so that high speeds can be maintained for long distances.

The clubman will find that this machine gives him a comfortable ride all day and not merely during an early morning ” blind ” and, with the addition of guards and bag, a touring holiday can equally be enjoyed.

A suitable specification for a complete cycle is:

Williams C34, Dunlop H.P.s, B.W 9 and 10 hubs, two ” G.B.” brakes ” Allez ” pedals, Maes bends, Brooks B17, Bluemel guards, and pump.

Finished in any colour flam, lustre or enamel; lined or lugs picked out; band to seat tube.

THE CYCLONE

Frame Set – – – £14 7 6

Complete cycle as above specification, including Tax £31 10 5

[A cartoon of a road time trial heads Holdsworth’s Cyclone page, with a boxed drawing of a head tube with its lugs and fork crown, the Cyclone frame set price and the price of the complete cycle including tax. The cartoon shows a rider cornering hard past a timekeeper and a woman pointing the way; a vertical drip stain runs from the drawing down to the first line of text, the top right corner is torn away and a brown stain runs along the bottom edge.]

— Page 9 —
TRACK PATH & ROAD.

THE MAN who likes to mix his ” 25’s ” with grass work and a dabble on the hard track will find this design an answer to his problems.

Three bikes combined in one !

The 73° parellel angles combined with round fork blades and exceptionally strong back, incorporating the W.F.H. heavy plate path ends and wrap-over seat stays, will meet all the stresses found when ” mixing it “.

This frame design with its specially cast crown and long two-inch path ends sacrifices nothing of its appearance to sturdyness.

Purely Path Frames, similar to those ridden by many of our leading amateurs and on which they have gained many successes at Home and Abroad, can be supplied to specification.

THE ZEPHYR

Frame Set – – – £15 15 0

Complete cycle to specification as ” Cyclone “, including Tax …. £32 12 8

[A cartoon of a track rider on a grass track, with a marquee, pennants and waving spectators behind, heads Holdsworth’s Zephyr page, with a boxed drawing of a head tube, head badge and fork crown and the Zephyr prices. The top left corner of the sheet is creased and chipped, and a brown stain runs along the bottom edge.]

— Page 10 —
IN LINE.

” IN LINE “—or out on your own—but any way up at the front. This model will keep you right up with any breakaways.

Built with many of the refinements of the famous “Tornado” there is no reason why an aspiring rider should not be able to afford a machine which will give him every advantage enjoyed by his more experienced competitors.

Basic design as the ” Tornado “, combined with a neat lug cut-out, gives this frame a workman-like and classy appearance.

Finished to your choice in flam, lustre or enamel. Imperial frame linings or lugs picked out. Gear and brake stops fitted but no lamp bracket unless asked for.

THE MONSOON

Frame Set – – – £12 12 0

Complete cycle with ” Hurricane ” specification, including Tax—
Three-speed …. £29 7 7 | Eight-speed …. £32 9 3

[A cartoon of a road race heads Holdsworth’s Monsoon page, a rider numbered 61 reaching for a feeding bag held out by a helper, with a boxed drawing of a head tube with cut-out lugs, a head badge and fork crown, and the Monsoon prices. A brown stain runs along the top edge and a crease crosses the bottom right corner without hiding any print.]

THE BEST

EVERYONE likes to see eyebrows raised and comments passed when they park their machine and such tributes to craftmanship are certain to be forthcoming for your ” Whirlwind “.

Built by men who take a pride in their work and who excel themselves when its a ” regardless of cost ” job. Lugs are hand-picked and finished with tender care into the intricate design shown here.

With the addition of first class Continental ” Stronglight ” fittings and genuine Agrati ends, the frame has a perfection unsurpassed in the trade.

In the finish, here again, no expense is spared. Chrome crown and drop outs, first class flam, lustre or enamel with contrasting band, either split or full six inch, or diamond on seat tube. Lug cut-outs are accentuated with hand linings. Frame lining and contrasting colour head if desired.

THE WHIRLWIND

Frame Set – – – £17 17 [hole]

[A cartoon of three onlookers admiring a lightweight bicycle propped against a wall heads Holdsworth’s Whirlwind page, with a boxed drawing of a head tube with ornate cut-out lugs, a head badge and fork crown, and the Whirlwind frame set price. The cartoon is signed “BOB. W” at the lower right; the bottom right corner of the sheet is torn away, taking the last figure of the price, and a small tear in the left margin and a brown stain along the top edge touch no print.]

— Page 12 —
LADIES

” THE LADIES ” is the toast of any club.

Having discarded Victorian ideas they have rapidly taken their true place in club life—racing, helping, touring. But, to efficiently undertake these activities, they must be properly equipped. Gone is the day of the Club-girl’s Open-frame ” Sports ” model. The modern club girl requires a diamond frame with similar equipment to that of the ” Boys “.

But such a frame must be specially designed for a club girl. A shorter top tube is indicated, whilst angles of 72° head and 73° seat tubes are required to give light but comfortable steering.

Ladies who are obliged to undertake a part of their riding in a skirt will find that a lateral model retains much of the rigidity of a diamond pattern with a sporting appearance.

You can have your frame finished in brilliant flam, gleaming lustre or pastel shade enamel. Either the frame or the lugs lined and a contrasting band on the seat tube.

THE LADIES CYCLONE

Frame Set – – – £14 7 6

Complete cycle to specification as “Cyclone”, including Tax …. £31 10 5

[A cartoon of a clubman with a tankard outside an inn greeting a club girl arriving on a diamond frame bicycle heads Holdsworth’s Ladies Cyclone page, with the frame set price and the price of the complete cycle including tax. The cartoon is signed “BOB WEBSTER” at the lower right; a brown stain runs along the top edge.]
