CHARLES TERRONT
Vainqueur du Match de 1,000 Kiloms.
sur sa
Bicyclette RUDGE

[Printed up the left-hand edge of the sheet:]

LITH. F. APPEL, PARIS

[An empty frame is printed across the foot of the sheet for the agent’s name. The museum’s CARNAVALET stamp is struck twice on the paper near the foot.]

[Charles Terront, mustached, in a tweed cap, a dark jacket and breeches, rides a diamond-frame bicycle toward the left along a riverside path, sitting upright with his hands on low bars and his face turned to the viewer. A village with a church tower stands on the slope behind him and reeds line the water.

Terront was the most famous French rider of his day. He won the first Paris–Brest–Paris in 1891, and in February 1893 he beat Corre in a match of 1,000 kilometers ridden indoors at the Galerie des Machines in Paris, about 41 hours in the saddle. The poster turns that win into a recommendation for the machine, and like the other Rudge sheets printed by Appel it leaves a frame at the foot for the agent.]
