INFORMATIONS TECHNIQUES & SPORTIVES
Record de participation battu à l’occasion de la 34e Journée Vélocio !
[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The item reports a record turnout at the 34th Journée Vélocio, held at the col du Grand-Bois and organized for the 34th time by the Chambre Syndicale de l’Industrie du Cycle de Saint-Etienne, at the forest monument to the late Paul de Vivie, referred to as the Apostle. It presents the event as proof that the “Petite Reine” and cyclotourism still thrive in an age of motorization. More than 1,100 cyclotouristes and cyclosportifs climbed the famous hill. The young Jacky Méallier of Saint-Etienne covered the course in 30’41”, the best time of 1959 and a record for the touriste category of 12 to 15 years, and the writer wonders whether he is a future Rivière. In the women’s category records also fell: Mme de Andreis in 38’38” (30 to 40 years) and Mme Rose Salvaire (Castres) in 44’45” (50 to 60 years). The oldest riders were applauded: the Swiss Jakob, aged 85, M. Vittore, 83, and M. Tison, 71. At the Vélocio monument M. Blachère, President of the Chambre Syndicale, congratulated the riders and thanked the public authorities and the municipality of Saint-Etienne. Fidelity medals followed: the gold medal (20 years of participation) to M. Della Noce (Saint-Etienne); silver medals (10 years) to G. Masson (Nancy), Sounalet (Castres), Bourdier (Clermont-Ferrand), Morel (Saint-Héand), Chovet (Saint-Etienne), Chalençon (Saint-Etienne), Jacquemond (Saint-Etienne), Rabeyrin (Le Puy), Loubet (Le Puy), Girard (Cusset), Cordero (Saint-Chamond), Magnère (Saint-Chamond), Barret (Orléans), Fernand (Saint-Laurent-lès-Mâcon), Maisonnas (Chambéry), Mme Jane de Andreis (Marseille), Ch. Blanc (Lyon), Miola (Annecy) and F. Giraud (Saint-Paulet-de-Caisson). The Cyclos de Grenoble won the Coupe de la Chambre Syndicale outright. M. de Fraissinette, Maire de Saint-Etienne, closed the 34th Journée, praising the elders for passing the taste for effort on to the young and thanking them on behalf of the city he calls the homeland of the Cycle. After a minute of silence in tribute to Paul de Vivie the riders gathered for a picnic in the clearing of the Grand-Bois and a last friendly competition. On the eve of the event officials and riders had been received at the hôtel de ville de Saint-Etienne, where MM. Blachère and de Fraissinette spoke.]
Une journée internationale des « 2-Roues », organisée par le Touring-Club de France.
[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Touring-Club de France announces that on Sunday 11 October, within the Foire internationale de Metz, it will hold the Journée internationale des « 2-Roues », a purely touring event with no speed or endurance contest, open to riders of bicycles, cyclomoteurs, scooters and motorcycles, with or without a passenger, whether or not they belong to an association; no license is required and a helmet is strongly recommended for motorized riders. Entrants meet in the cour d’honneur of the Foire internationale de Metz, avenue de l’Amphithéâtre, for the start of a surprise touring Rallye whose route (about 80 or 115 km, by category) is handed out at the start. There are two categories, bicyclettes-cyclomoteurs and motos-scooters, with an official checkpoint halfway and secret checks along the route, and a gymkhana inside the fairground. The first 30 finishers in each category may enter a separate handling and skill test over harmless obstacles. Entries go to the Touring-Club de France, 65, avenue de la Grande-Armée, Paris (16e), with a fixed fee of 150 francs for the events or 1.000 francs for those who also want the meal, paid in cash, by cheque or postal transfer (C.C.P. Paris nº 3258) or by mandat-carte marked for the T.C.F. event of 11 October 1959. Prizes worth 150.000 francs will be given.]
