From L’Officiel du cycle, du motocycle et du camping, 2 October 1954, the paper’s special number before the 1954 Paris Salon du Cycle et du Motocycle, pages 147 and 149: the survey “Deux-Roues 1955” on the children’s and toy bicycles of Picard-Fayolle of Saint-Étienne, with the series G, its inflatable tires and its nylon hubs, over two pages. The title, headings, captions and lists are transcribed as printed; the text is summarized in Ebykr’s words, and the page images carry it in full.

★ Les vélos-jouets PICARD-FAYOLLE

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The editor says that the house of Picard-Fayolle of Saint-Étienne, well known for its cycles and its hunting guns, has won a first-rank place for its “enfant” and “jouet” bicycles. This year it shows its series G, with inflatable tires and nylon bearing hubs. The paragraph that follows begins to say that this feature, fitted to a machine whose shape suits boys and girls alike, gives a smoothness comparable to that of a ball-bearing movement; the sentence is completed in the next image.]

[A text-only extract with no illustration. A bold sans-serif headline that opens with a star reads “Les vélos-jouets PICARD-FAYOLLE”, the marque name in capitals. Beneath it three short paragraphs of roman text are set across the full width of the column, each beginning with an indented first line. The last line of the extract ends mid-sentence with the word “donne”. No signature or agency mark shows.]

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The sentence begun in the previous image concludes: the nylon hubs give a smoothness comparable to that of ball bearings and remove the need for greasing, since the young users of the article are seldom inclined to maintenance. The rear of the frame is well braced. The stays are conical and set in one-piece dropouts, mounted on a steel fork crown. The cranks are very elegant, of pressed steel, nickel plated and fixed to the axle by a strong nut and fan washers that keep them from working loose. The author then lists the other features: Lyotard ball-bearing parts (the printed line names Lyotard and ball bearings without naming the part), nickel-plated steel rims, stainless spokes with brass nipples, hollow rubber tires of 19 x 35, an adjustable nickel-plated handlebar with a curved stem, a natural leather saddle, a polished duralumin fender and a luggage carrier enameled in the frame color, fixed to the dropouts by barrels and locked with a Simmonds self-locking nut. The enamels are of the transparent type in green and red. Finally the stabilizers, of a new model, give a really pleasing look to this bicycle, which he judges worthy of a place with every bicycle dealer who wants to attract the children’s market as a nursery of future users of adult bicycles.]

[A text-only extract with no illustration, heading or signature. Four paragraphs of roman text are set across the full width of the column, each beginning with an indented first line, and the last paragraph ends the article with the words “la clientèle enfantine.” The extract begins in the middle of a sentence carried over from the previous image.]
