USINES A CLERMONT-FERRAND (Puy-de-Dôme)
[The front cover, printed in grass green and black on cream paper. A green field runs to the edges of the sheet, broken at the head by a white panel shaped like a long tablet with a rounded left end, the whole underlined by a heavy black rule. Inside the rounded end a line vignette shows a man in shirt and tie riding a bicycle at the left and a man in leather jacket, breeches and a padded helmet astride a motorcycle at the right, with trees, a pitched ridge tent and tufts of grass behind them; the grass and the foliage are tinted green over the black line work, and a small cursive signature in one stroke, with a looped letter in the middle, sits on the ground at the lower right of the vignette and is too fine to read. To the right of the vignette the masthead is set in three decreasing lines: “L’OFFICIEL” in tall shaded roman capitals, “DU CYCLE , DU MOTOCYCLE” in bold sans-serif capitals with a space before the comma, and “ET DU CAMPING” in lighter sans-serif capitals. Two narrow white stripes run up from the panel over the green to the top edge, and the same pair runs down to the foot of the sheet. Below the black rule, on the green, “NUMÉRO SPÉCIAL DU SALON 1952” is set in bold black sans-serif capitals. The lower three quarters of the sheet is a full-page advertisement for Favor on a cream ground with a green border. At its head a green lozenge tilted to the left, backed by a black drop shadow, carries “SALON DU CYCLE et de la MOTO Porte de Versailles STAND 134” in white script and sans-serif lettering, and beside it the word “FAVOR” is drawn very large in green brush capitals with a black drop shadow. Under them a halftone photograph, framed in black on a gray ground, shows a cyclomoteur in full left profile: an open loop frame with the name on the down tube, a sprung front fork, a small headlamp on the front mudguard, a sprung saddle, a rear carrier, pedals with a chain run and a small engine with its cover low in the frame. To the right of the photograph a tall green panel ruled with thin white lines carries, in white lettering, the script word “présente :” over three groups parted by white dots: cyclomoteurs with Le Poulain engines of 48 CM³ and 85 CM³ and Vap of 49 CM³, vélomoteurs with Sachs of 98 CM³ and AMC of 125 CM³, and motos with Sachs of 150 CM³ and AMC of 175 CM³. The agency mark “PUB. S.O.S.P.” is set small in black at the foot of that panel. A black band across the foot of the advertisement reads “USINES A CLERMONT-FERRAND (Puy-de-Dôme)” in white sans-serif capitals. Two library marks lie over the printing: a rectangular purple legal-deposit stamp at the left, straddling the green and the white above the advertisement, whose first line reads “D. L.” and whose second reads “- 7 OCT 1952” above a third line too faint to read; and, in the green at the lower left corner, a pencil shelfmark in two lines, “Jo” over a short number of four or five figures that the pencil leaves too faint to read with certainty. A vertical fold runs the height of the sheet a little left of the center.]
