Equipements & Outillage

TECHNIQUE 51 AU SALON

Les volants magnétiques A. B. G.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. A product of the Aviation department of the Société A. B. G., these magneto flywheels (for motor machines) are said to be easy to fit and adjust. They give an immediate start, very low idling and vigorous pick-up, and powerful lighting at every engine speed without over-voltage. Upkeep is negligible, since no attention is needed before 25.000 km.]

Les bougies AC

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. AC spark plugs are said to meet every need and every type of engine, for the motorcycle as much as for the motorcar. They owe their spread to the finish of their manufacture as much as to the choice of materials, and their « Coralox » insulator contributes to their excellent output.]

Les pompes AD-HOC et SUPER AD-HOC

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Made in the high-strength light alloy « Alumag » by the Établissements Ed. et F. COLOMBAT, of Lyon, the AD-HOC and SUPER AD-HOC bicycle pumps are called very carefully made accessories that do their job perfectly. They exist in « Spéciale Professionnel » and « Spéciale Tourisme » types.]

Les accessoires AMAC

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The AMAC range of quality accessories, for motor machines, runs from the celebrated carburetors for motorcycles and vélomoteurs, and for auxiliary engines (type « Baby »), to the 1951-model handlebars with a new built-in twist grip and separate grips for the vélomoteur handlebar. All are called extremely carefully made, upholding and widening the old reputation of the producing firm.]

Les fournitures ARGAUD

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. For forty-five years the Établissements A. ARGAUD et Fils, of Paris, have been « la Maison de gros des Vélocistes ». The house delivers in Paris, the provinces and the Union Française everything for building frames, assembling or repairing cycles and equipping cyclists — spare parts, accessories, tires, tools and sporting goods — in articles of the leading French and foreign marques.]

Les sandows A. T. G.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Durability guided the design of the A. T. G. sandow (luggage strap for the bicycle), made by the Lyon firm of that name. It is the « Doubletresse », whose bundle of rubber threads is covered by two superimposed sheaths, preventing premature breaks, so that it gives long service without the sorry look of an unraveled luggage strap.]

Les décalcomanies L’AUTO-DÉCOR

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Manufacture des Décalcomanies Industrielles de Paris specializes in transfers applied with water (slide-on) or with varnish; it stocks sleeves, badges and assorted packets and makes any design to order. Its L’AUTO-DÉCOR production (« L’Oncle Sam » mark) counts first-rank references such as Peugeot, Alcyon and Motobécane. The paper prints “danz” for “dans”.]

Les chaînes BRAMPTON

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. BRAMPTON chains are called one of the most celebrated specialist marques in the cycle field, adopted by countless racers and cyclotourists the world over because they are designed for three-, four- and five-speed derailleurs.]

Les spécialités CAMPAGNOLO

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Made by the celebrated firm of Vicenza (Italy), the CAMPAGNOLO specialties are said to have quickly won acceptance in France through their eminent qualities. The paper confines itself to listing the front and rear derailleurs, the « passvitesses », the automatic quick-release for the wheels and the extra-light hubs in steel and duralumin.]

Les spécialités italiennes CANETTI

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Établissements CANETTI, of Neuilly, showed with growing success their Italian specialties GNUTTI, AMBROSIO and UNIVERSAL. The new models of the COTTERLESS cotterless chainset are praised for elegance, strength and finish, and connoisseurs have already taken up other Gnutti lines, notably the high-class quick-release hubs, competition hubs and headsets. The CANETTI stand also showed two new shock absorbers for cycles and cyclomoteurs, the high-quality VELO and FAVORIT chains, and the firm’s regular lines: FAVORIT coaster hubs, OSA bulbs and bottom-bracket shells.]

Les productions CHALURET

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. CHALURET is known to dealers for its special super-tape, type Champion du Monde, for gluing tubulars (53 fois champion du monde, 83 records du monde). It adds the « Chalmen » handlebar finish (matt, braided, varnished); the washable, unalterable « Plastoguidon » in every color; its dérailleur 93; the « Chalectric » electric cable for cycles; the « Chalémail » quick cold enamel; and its toe-clip straps.]

Les garde-boue et carters CHAZAL-ROUCHOUSE

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Saint-Étienne firm CHAZAL-ROUCHOUSE has set out to renew the look of the bicycle mudguard and chainguard. In mudguards it offers the course type « Iris », the demi-ballon « Le Clouté » and the course, route and demi-ballon « Le Croco », said to be of very happy profiles and decoration; in chainguards the « Anglais » and « Le Croco » types, called very original in design and ornament.]

Les spécialités CHOLAIN

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The ingenious specialties of A. CHOLAIN, of Paris, are commended to all dealers: the Cholain bloque-patins, which lets brakes be set in a moment by leaving both hands free to adjust the cables, and the Cholain combination lock in rubber-sheathed steel cable.]

L’embrayage CICCA

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. To its many equipment lines CICCA adds a creation that puts its motorcar technique at the service of the cyclomoteur: a clutch for the Mobylette, said to make the popular cyclomoteur still more pleasant, and to be robust, light, safe and extremely convenient.]

Les productions C. L. B.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The great Saint-Étienne marque C. L. B. has developed an astonishing range of new items for the road, racing, cyclotouring, the child’s bicycle and the cyclomoteur. Passing over its well-known brakes, the paper cites its single and double-control guidonnet, its pedal raisers for children, its chainguards for front derailleurs and its direction guides gathering the cables at the front of cyclomoteur handlebars.]

Les éclairages combinés COURSON

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Statistics show that nearly 12 millions bicycles were in use in France in 1950, so bicycle lighting is a matter of general interest, concerning more than one French person in four — the entry running on to the following page.]

[A text-only page in two justified columns, with no photographs or drawings. Across the head runs the headline “Equipements & Outillage” in a large heavy upright script, underlined by a triple rule, and beneath it “TECHNIQUE 51 AU SALON” in tall thin slab-serif capitals. Each firm’s subheading is set centered in bold sans-serif, with the firm’s name in capitals, and the running text beneath is set throughout in italic, with brand names in italic capitals. The folio “— 39 —” stands centered at the foot of the page. A large lettered panel from the reverse of the leaf shows through faintly behind the headline.]

— Page 2 —
[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Continuing the COURSON entry: the firm, which for twenty years has worked at the problem of bicycle lighting, showed a new combined red rear lamp and reflector of sober and elegant line, so the unit is at once luminous and reflecting. As on the other COURSON rear lamps, the bulb filaments are protected by a rubber shock absorber that takes up all vibration, and the paper congratulates the maker.]

Les productions C. V. F.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The firm C. V. F., of Saint-Étienne, makes high-quality spare parts and luxury frames for cycles, and also builds cycles and scooters, in very serious production with a perfect finish. The paper prints “pourc ycles” for “pour cycles”.]

Les pneumatiques DUNLOP

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The paper says DUNLOP’s renown needs no praise and gives figures for its cycle and motorcycle range: no fewer than 17 tread profiles leave the factory, 8 for bicycle tires, 5 for vélomoteur tires and 4 for motorcycle tires, and among the latest is the Dunlop tire for the scooter. In allied lines the marque also makes saddles and trim for bicycles, vélomoteurs and motorcycles.]

Les fabrications T. EBERLEIN

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The house of T. EBERLEIN, of Paris, makes accessories for the cycle and the motorcycle, notably its pumps, « L’Aéro-Pompe » in brass and in aluminum for cycles, and its warning horns for vélomoteurs, motorcycles and motorcars, called very carefully made and serious articles.]

Les sandows E. F. D.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Fifty years of experience have let the Établissements F. DURAND, of Lyon, develop double-covered sandows (luggage straps) for cycles and motorcycles. Besides the superior double sheath, they offer a variety of outer colors and a safety catch by snap-hook that allows the hook to open completely.]

Les fabrications ELTE

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The house of Léon THOMAS, of Paris, maker of metal articles, produces notably bells for cycles and a pedal protector designed to prevent wear of the shoe, and enjoys an excellent reputation for quality.]

Les sacoches et selles GALLET

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Établissements GALLET, of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne (Ain), did not exhibit at the Salon this year, but their products were present on very many makers’ stands. They make bags of every model (leather, cuiryte, polished aluminum or steel base, aluminum enamel), leather bags for bicycles and motorcycles, and soft saddles of every model for cyclomoteurs in leather and in plastic. Their marks are « Gallet », « Kidur », « Agda », « Verybest » and « Club ».]

Les pistons GAMMA

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. GAMMA pistons, for motor machines, are made in a high-silicon alloy for all two- and four-stroke motorcycle engines and are reputed to hold up in the hardest service. They are a production of S. I. P. P. of Boulogne-sur-Seine (depot: SEGMACIER, at Levallois-Perret).]

Les selles Henri GAUTHIER

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Specialists in the plastic saddle, the Établissements Henri GAUTHIER equip the best marques. Their « Lionrone » and « White-Star » lines have been the subject of new patents, and the paper notes that it has often cited this producer in its « Équipements et Outillage » column.]

Les spécialités GUIDONYL

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The paper has already reported one « Guidonyl » specialty: handlebar end plugs that fit any grip instantly by simple pressure. Each plug is a disc of Scotchlite mounted on a phosphorescent material, so it is both reflecting and fluorescent; the material has already been adopted by the Ponts et Chaussées and for road signs. Set at the end of the bar, the device marks the machine’s maximum width, making it the clearance light par excellence, adaptable to bicycles, vélomoteurs and motorcycles (Brevet Moriquand). Under the Guidonyl mark there is also every plastic item for handlebars, grips, tapes and so on. The illustrated grip is a production of the Établissements MORVIL, of Voiron (Isère).]

Les fabrications GUTTACOLL

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The paper had to call several times at the stand of the Établissements GUTTACOLL before it could talk with M. Marcel BOUCHER, who has run the house for thirty-five years.]

[Ebykr summary, after the reproduced advertisement. M. BOUCHER pointed out the growing interest in GUTTACOLL zebra-striped brake blocks since cyclomoteurs have come into wider use, because, he said, it is the users themselves who insist that their brakes be fitted with his block.]

[A text page in two justified columns, the firm subheadings centered in bold sans-serif with the names in capitals and the running text set in italic, the folio not visible. In the left column, under the DUNLOP entry, a squared halftone photograph without a caption shows a scooter on a showroom floor seen from the front three-quarter: a broad handlebar with a lamp at its center above a curved leg shield, a coil-sprung saddle, a large pointed body panel running forward low beside the machine and a spare wheel with a treaded tire and a dished hub carried upright at its side. In the right column a small line drawing of a cylindrical handlebar grip, ribbed and cross-hatched, with a flared closed end, sits beside the last lines of the GUIDONYL entry. Under the GUTTACOLL heading a handwritten note in a flowing pen hand, underlined with a long stroke, introduces a reproduction of a page of advertisements from December 1900, set askew on the page and printed in heavy black: at the top a ruled panel for “PNEUS MILORD” of E. Bernard, Courbevoie, in bold display capitals and slanting lines of type; below it a deep-ruled panel for “La Meilleure dissolution” of André Tels, rue des Francs-Bourgeois, Paris, with the word “Guttacoll” standing at its right in very tall condensed letters; and at the foot a panel for “LE PROTECTOR” puncture guard, with an engraving of a cut-away tire showing a metal-knit band inside the casing and, beside it, a narrow section of the band. A hand-drawn arrow curves from the note down to the Guttacoll name and a second curved line frames it at the right. The Protector engraving carries a small signature under the tire, read approximately as “ERoch” and not certainly legible; no Rebour monogram appears. The last word of the Protector address is cut where the reproduction is trimmed.]

— Page 3 —
[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Continuing the GUTTACOLL entry: production keeps pace easily thanks to improved tooling, and the rest of the GUTTACOLL specialties share in the vogue, notably the famous GUTTACOLL solution, created more than fifty years ago. The TRESSOLUX handlebar braid and the BOYEOL tape (for the bicycle) are said to be adopted by racers the world over for their unvarying quality, to the credit of French manufacture.]

Une exclusivité des Établissements HENRY HAMELLE

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Établissements Henry HAMELLE are sole selling agents for France and the overseas territories of the Valvespout oil cans. Besides a faultless finish, the cans have a spout in brass turned entirely from the bar, with a fully tight shut-off valve whose parts are all turned too. They serve every industry and household and motorists, cyclists and motorcyclists alike; they are made in 6 models holding from 12 to 125 grammes of oil, and all spouts are interchangeable, so each can may be supplied with the spout best suited to its use. They are sold at every HAMELLE branch in France — Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nancy, Nantes, Rennes, Saint-Quentin, Toulouse, Troyes — and in North Africa: Alger, Oran, Tunis, Casablanca.]

Les exclusivités ARTHUR HEROLD père

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This Villemomble firm, well known to dealers, holds a wide range of specialties, of which the paper cites only the DUREX coaster hubs for cycles and cyclomoteurs, P. W. B. precision balls and ball races, BERKO lighting and HEBIE anti-theft locks. The firm also presents in France the GOERICKE motorcycles.]

Les selles IDÉALE

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Another classic marque of the cycle industry, which has kept its products in the first rank of quality by constant progress. In leather saddles it shows the « Professionnel cyclo-cross » and « Professionnel course », in Duralumin and steel-wire frame types; in rubber saddles the IDÉALE DUNLOP for men, women, racing and heavy weights.]

Les productions JANISSON

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Under their « Goer » mark the Établissements JANISSON of SAINT-ÉTIENNE count more than half a century of experience in bearings, headsets, bottom-bracket sets and hubs for trailers, motorcycles and triporteurs, and stand ready to advise and guide the dealer-assemblers.]

Les carters JOURLAIT

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Made by the Établissement P. JOURLAIT, the « Rigid » chainguards in cast aluminum enjoy a wide and solid reputation; made of quality material in very happy designs, they give the bicycle a characteristic elegance and finish.]

Les bougies K. L. G.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The celebrated K. L. G. « Corundite » plugs bring out their C. L. V. plugs for all small capacities up to 125 cm3, a novelty expected to spread widely. The firm also makes spark-plug protector caps: model S, special for motorcycles, vélomoteurs, scooters and auxiliary engines, and models M and A, suppressing radio and television interference.]

Les fabrications LAMBERT et CAGNON

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. A complete range of brakes and double-brake handlebars is made by the Établissements A. LAMBERT et F. CAGNON, of Lyon, under their « Gloria » mark; the « Iseran », « Blocus », « Geny » and « Tour de France » models are said to have already won the renown of high-class articles.]

Les éclairages LUXOR

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. LUXOR lighting (Manufacture d’Éclairages pour Cycles et Vélomoteurs TRAIZET et Cie) presented, at a lecture for technicians on their stand on the morning of the Salon’s opening, dynamos of an entirely new design: the Luxor « 42 », « 60 » and « 63 ». They cost five years of uninterrupted research, crowned with success eight months ago, and tooling worth several millions is to let the Manufacture’s works at Angoulême produce them in large series from this month.]

La fourche télescopique M. A. C.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Made by the Manufacture Azuréenne des Cycles et Selles, of Cannes (Le Cannet), the M. A. C. telescopic fork is said to have proved its comfort and safety in the Nice-Paris, the Mont-Agel, the Mont Ventoux, the Bol d’Or and the Tour Cyclotouriste, and to have an immense future in the equipment of cyclomoteurs.]

Les spécialités MAINGONNAT

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The house of MAINGONNAT, of Paris, is export agent for many first-rank cycle specialties, among them the « Béral » brakes, the « Fonderies Eudoises » stems, the « Grandsire » chain covers, the « Jowick » hubs and the baby bicycles of the Établissements FERRIOL-MATRAT, of Saint-Étienne.]

Les carters tournants NAP

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Made by the Société NAP, of Vitry-le-François, the rotating chainguard gives the machine a new line and an original look, and interests every dealer-assembler because its three-point fixing on the arms of the chainwheel cuts assembly time.]

Les antivols NEIMAN

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. At the Salon du Cycle NEIMAN showed its bicycle and motorcycle steering locks and its rubber suspension. The bicycle lock adds little to the cost of the machine and is sold to the customer as a very cheap extra: the maker need only provide a small socket weighing only 8 gr. when building the frame, a socket that even reinforces the head tube instead of weakening it and is almost invisible; the customer then buys the removable NEIMAN bolt from the maker’s agent. Because the bolt is bulkier than a key alone, the user soon learns to “get rid of it” by placing it in the head of the frame at every stop, so the lock becomes automatic, like its elder, the car lock.]

L’antivol vélo

L’antivol moto

[Ebykr summary, after the drawings. The paper names the makers fitting the NEIMAN to cycles: “Aiglon, Griffon, Météore, Peugeot, Riva-Sport, Ruche, Terrot, Trophée de France, Stella.” It adds that while the bicycle lock was patented and launched by NEIMAN only in 1938, the motorcycle lock has been made by NEIMAN since 1932, and on the same principle it is fitted in series by many makers: “Aiglon, Automoto, Gnôme et Rhône, Griffon, Météore, Peugeot, Scooters Bernardet, Terrot, Trophée de France (pour les marques Françaises); Anker, B. M. W., Bücker, D. K. W., F. N. Hecker, Heinkel, Hercules, Horex, Hummel, Lambretta N. S. U., Lutz, N. S. U., Rabeneick, Rixe, Royal, Standard Allemande, Standard Suisse, Steib, Tornax, Triumph (T. W. N.) U. T., Victoria, Zundapp, etc. (pour les marques étrangères).”]

[A text page in two justified columns, the firm subheadings centered in bold sans-serif with the names in capitals and the running text in italic. In the left column, beside the HAMELLE entry and with the text indented to clear them, four Valvespout oil cans are drawn in line with solid black shading, grouped one above another: a tall slim can with a long needle spout, a squat dome-topped can, a tall conical can and a round flat can with a bent spout, three of them carrying a round label lettered “Valvespout”. At the foot of the right column two pen drawings stand side by side over roman captions: at the left, captioned “L’antivol vélo”, a hand turning a small key in a lock fitted to a bicycle head tube between the top and down tubes, drawn with solid black and fine hatching; at the right, captioned “L’antivol moto”, a hand inserting a cylindrical bolt into the steering head of a motorcycle, with cables and the edge of the tank shown in loose line. No signature appears in the corners of any drawing. The folio is not visible.]

— Page 4 —
[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Continuing the NEIMAN entry: the NEIMAN rubber suspension, under its international patents, is self-progressive and self-damping. It isolates the sprung wheel from the chassis or frame by rubber, gives a supple, automatically variable suspension and does away with any damper. It is light, made of concentric NEIMAN rings of different diameters working at different rates, which gives a « étagée » suspension and a « étagée » safety; each ring is built up like plywood, so that even cut with a knife it does not tear.]

La suspension Neiman

L’antivol papillon

[Ebykr summary, after the drawings. The suspension has proved itself on motorcycles, sidecars, scooters and cyclecars since 1930, and the paper found it on the stands of: “Belgian side-cars, D. K. W., F. N. motos, F. N. side-cars, Gnôme et Rhône, motos Whizzer, scooters Bernardet, scooters Terrot, scooters Speed, triporteurs Impérial, side-cars Précision, side-cars Stoye, triporteurs Juéry, etc.” — as well as on a series of stands of bicycles fitted with NEIMAN suspension forks.]

Les fourches NERVEX

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Société Franco-Suisse d’Emboutissage counts among its finest products the NERVEX « professionnel » series (for the bicycle), adopted by the greatest racing marques. Their record of wins includes Paris-Bruxelles, the Circuit des 6 Provinces, the Tour du Maroc, the Tour du Sud-Est, Paris-Saint-Étienne and Bordeaux-Paris.]

Les spécialités ORYAP

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The house of ORYAP, of Paris, has three main specialties: lighting for cycles (headlamps and reflectors, combined red lamps), polished and in aluminite; its well-known pannier bags for luggage carriers; and wheels and solid tires of 100 to 400 mm. for trailers and children’s carriages, already described in the paper’s « Équipements et Outillage » page. The range is said to interest every dealer for the equipment it offers.]

Les roues libres PACKSON

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This young and dynamic firm is said to have imposed the class of its products at the Salon; its season’s record (Championnat du Monde Route Professionnel, etc.) shows the confidence of makers and champions, and proves that the multiple-tooth PACKSON-PERFECTION freewheel meets every demand of a first-class clientele. The paper gives the means in four numbered points: 1° ultra-modern automatic machinery for the freewheel bodies, holding exact dimensions and bearing-track profiles, cutting cleanly without tool marks or burrs, with body threads so treated that the freewheels mount perfectly on the hubs; 2° care in heat treatment, avoiding distortion in case-hardening and quenching (no parts quenched in bulk at any temperature, but quenching on jigs, temperature regulators and suitable quality oils); 3° grinding after hardening, each bearing track ground so that the maker’s nightmare, wobble from non-concentric bearings, is avoided; 4° strict inspection, each part accepted into store only after checks of finish, tooth cutting, threads and bearings. Until now the 3,17 ball was standard; the new PACKSON-PERFECTION S. C. (Service Course) freewheel, tried this season, will be delivered during the 1951-1952 season with two rows of 3,96 balls, giving an incomparably smooth running and very precise adjustment, with no play developing in use — called the perfect part racing was waiting for.]

Les cale-pieds et courroies PATURAUD

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Toe clips and straps, the paper argues, look minor but are of capital importance for sustained effort on track and road: no racer can win without them, and every racer at every start, amateur or professional, uses them. The toe clip fixes the foot’s exact position on the pedal and greatly strengthens the « coup de pédale », letting the foot work on the pedal through the whole turn, up as well as down, almost abolishing any « point mort »; the strap completes it, binding the rider to the machine so he pedals harder with less effort — and the same holds for randonneurs, cyclotourists and all road riders. The clip must spring, so it must be in tempered steel neither too hard (it breaks and the race is lost) nor too soft, shaped to fit the shoe; the strap must be of very good chrome leather tanned to be just supple enough not to stretch, of even thickness, with a buckle sure and easy to tighten and to release instantly.]

[Ebykr summary, after a three-star break. Since there are clips and clips, the paper looks at the choice of the great champions. First comes the Swiss Hugo KOBLET, winner within a few weeks of the Tour de France, the Critérium des As and the Grand Prix des Nations, on French equipment: a PERLE bicycle fitted with Paturaud toe clips and straps. The directeur sportif of La Perle is Francis Pélissier, « le Grand », « le Sorcier », who advises all his riders to use Paturaud clips and straps, and they often win: Meunier (Paris-Limoges), Matteoli (Championnat de France de Poursuite). Other wins with these clips and straps include the Championnat du Monde, the Tour Cyclotouriste Polymultipliée, the Poly lyonaise and Paris-Brest-Paris, and lately the world speed record by José Meiffret, on a Yvars bicycle, at 175 km. 721. The view is shared by the winners of the great long-distance rides: Sahara (Fiando), Paris-Saïgon (Lionel Brans), Athènes-Paris (Lacoste, Defraigne, Bauleret), Tour du Monde (Christophe et Bercault). The paper prints “Patutaud” once for Paturaud.]

Les colliers P. C.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Made by the Établissements CAILLAU, of Boulogne-Billancourt, these hose clips have a worldwide name (notably the perforated clips for fuel and oil pipes). The firm also shows its P. C. claw and pincer wire clips, used by the leading makers of cyclomoteur engines.]

Les chaînes PERRY

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. PERRY chains are made and guaranteed by PERRY CHAIN CO Ltd, of Birmingham (Angleterre). Exclusive wholesale distribution for France and the Union Française is held by AFCO S. A., of Villemomble, which adds this article of international class to its well-known cycle specialties.]

[A text page in two justified columns, the firm subheadings centered in bold sans-serif and the running text in italic, a few words set in roman for emphasis. Across the top of the left column two pen drawings stand side by side over roman captions: at the left, captioned “La suspension Neiman”, the rear of a machine with a long curved mudguard over the wheel, the chainstays and seat stays meeting at a hatched upright tube and a rubber-ring suspension unit set between them near the hub; at the right, captioned “L’antivol papillon”, a hand gripping a small barrel lock beside a wheel hub whose wing-nut fastening and spokes are drawn in fine line. Pour la présentation impeccable des cycles

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The installation illustrated plays an essential part in making bicycles and motorcycles: in its series of tanks parts receive the BONDERITE treatment, which both protects them against corrosion and gives a perfect key to the finishing varnishes. Another property of Bondérisation is that it strictly confines corrosion to places accidentally laid bare by a hard knock.]

Ci-dessus, l’une des installations de Bondérisation en service aux

In electric lighting for cycles the Établissements ROBERT Frères, of Étupes (Doubs), have made their ROB mark popular, from their dynamo in cast metal, nickel- and chrome-plated, fully demountable with all parts interchangeable, to their plain and reflector red lamps. Two ROB products earn special mention. First, the Groupe 27, demi-course, in three pieces, with these advantages: 1° the headlamp can be tilted vertically at will without dismantling, being independent of the dynamo; 2° the beam stays fixed in direction; 3° every element is interchangeable. Second, the phare 59 C. M., for the cyclomoteur lit from a magneto flywheel, made in light metal with a silvered brass reflector and bulb holder, a domed fluted glass (diamètre 77 mm.) and a flame-shaped switch sliding on top of the lamp; fitted with a bracket for the mudguard or a fork-crown mount, it is very simple to fit.]

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Present economic conditions, the paper says, seem to push makers of light motorcycles toward a simplified utility model for buyers of limited means, which must still be safe, reliable and robust despite a keen price; an engine with a separate 3-speed gearbox would solve the problem of a robust machine at a moderate price. The side position keeps the child under the parents’ constant watch, and being fixed on the right it keeps the child away from cars passing too close. All joints are mounted on the silentbloc system. It is made as a single-seater, extra-light type for cycles, tandems and cyclomoteurs (poids complet : 13 kg.), and as a single or two-seater type designed for vélomoteurs (poids complet : 20 kg.).
