Telle fut la couverture de notre premier Numéro en 1891

— [?] —

[A full-page facsimile, in halftone, of the cover of « Le Cycle » No. 1, Saturday 29 August 1891, set in a thin ruled frame with the 1951 caption in italic serif beneath. The 1891 cover is framed in a dark border: the title “Le Cycle” in large swelling white letters outlined in black over a ground of interlocking spiral ornament; a twisting ribbon carries “ORGANE HEBDOMADAIRE SPÉCIAL DE” and a scroll “LA” to a white panel with “VÉLOCIPÉDIE”. Below, an engraved scene of cyclists on safety bicycles riding down a wooded lane toward the viewer, the foremost in a cap and dark jersey bent over the bars, others behind him and one standing with his machine at the left; a cyclist in a racing jersey is framed at the right edge. A white panel at the right holds the publication, editor and subscription lines with small typographic ornaments; a sprig of foliage spills across its foot. A scroll banner at the bottom carries the contents in small italic and roman type, above a band of interlaced oval ornament and the printer’s line in a bar along the foot. Signed “E.LOEVY” at the lower left of the scene, beside the cyclist, with a small mark beneath it (perhaps a date, too small to read). Matter on the reverse of the sheet (the heading “LES DEUX STANDS DE L’OFFICIEL” and running text) shows through faintly around the facsimile and through it; it is not part of the record. No library stamp.]
