Technique et Qualité
au Salon 1950

Spécialités ANGÉNIEUX-C.L.B.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The firm is praised as one that searches, finds and brings something new. The paper recalls having already described its special road handlebar grip and its touring handlebar, double-control models for tandems or for disabled riders, its “Champion de France” brakes, its chain cases and its luggage carriers. It now points to a remarkable cyclemotor brake that can be mounted inside or outside the front fork. Another C.L.B. device corrects the length of the cranks, so that a child can ride a bicycle too large for its age well in advance, which means longer use; the article also interests railroad track workers, often troubled by the pedals striking the ballast.]

Support articulé A.O.C.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The A.O.C. jointed stand has an anti-theft lock and fits all cycles. Its two legs are articulated and, spreading outward in the parked position, serve both as stand and as lock. The whole is made of a very high-strength light alloy.]

Spécialités des ATELIERS DU DORLAY

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. At the Salon the various specialties of the Ateliers du Dorlay drew notice; its directors, MM. Minaire and Ronez, are well known in industrial circles. For some months the firm has been very busy and its output keeps rising: in tubes it now reaches 1,500 complete sets. The Ateliers du Dorlay supply well-known makes such as la Perle, Argaud, Sterling and VBF, while still exporting a large share. Its products are complete sets of tubes, chain stays, fork blades, seat stays, parts stamped on 5- to 200-ton presses, bottom bracket shells, fork crowns and threaded tubes. The Saint-Étienne firm is also launching a handlebar with a special finish in all colors, which the paper expects to succeed and to add to the harmony of the bicycle; it says the constructors will welcome it and promises to return to it.]

Fourche télescopique BAZIN

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This telescopic fork fits any motorized bicycle or cyclemotor without modification. It works on the principle of oil shock absorbers and allows the existing brakes and equipment (luggage carrier, headlamp and so on) to be kept. A special model is planned for tandems, giving the same comfort and road holding as on the single machine.]

Freins BELEY et BOURQUIN

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. These brakes have an amplifying lever, the « Béborex » system, and are made in a special racing model in extra-light metal as well as in steel. They have a removable cable-housing stop and allow the shoes to be offset for a buckled rim. The firm also makes cable-operated brakes in stamped steel with rear mounting, the luxury « Bébolux » center-pull brakes that mount on any standard boss front or rear or under the bottom bracket, and brake levers in stamped steel or « Trials » (with an adjusting barrel in the housing stop).]

Selles BROOKS

Les selles Brooks, excellents articles anglais, sont bien connues, mais nous estimons indispensable de signaler le modèle B 57, représenté ci-dessous. (Agent Général M. GOMPEL).

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The saddle is light and shaped to allow maximum push on the pedals and freedom of movement for the legs; its shape is also designed to be gripped by hand in cyclo-cross.]

Moyeux CAMPAGNOLO

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Fausto Coppi, Schotte and Van Steenbergen have adopted Campagnolo hubs, whose record in 1950 is called exceptional. They are made as front and rear hubs with one or two threads and as quick-release hubs front and rear.]

Avertisseur CICCA

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The famous Ténor Cicca « 15 V » is a very powerful horn for light motorcycles and motorcycles, driven by friction on the tire or on the magneto flywheel. Special mounting brackets are made for Peugeot, Motobécane and Gnôme-Rhône.]

[The title is set in large sans-serif capitals and lower case between double rules. A line drawing beside the A.O.C. section shows the jointed stand mounted at the rear wheel of a bicycle, near the pedal and chain, with its two legs folded. Under the Brooks section a drawing shows the B 57 saddle in side view, leather top with rivets, on its rails and clip. Neither drawing carries a visible signature. The page number “— 19 —” is printed at the foot. Show-through from the reverse page (large lettering, including “MOTO”) is visible through the paper.]

— Page 2 —
Dynamo CIBIÉ

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Cibié dynamo, type 27, has a nominal output of 2.7 watts and feeds a 0.1-ampere rear lamp and a 0.35-ampere front lamp. The paper calls it the most modern machine of its kind for its line, its easy fitting (it is standardized), its knurled roller and silent ball bearings, its high-quality magnetic circuit and its winding on a plastic bobbin (perfect insulation and arrangement of the wires).]

Pneus CLÉMENT

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The paper was pleased to meet Mme Clément at the Salon, administrator of the Société Clément of Milan (Italy), the universally known maker of Clément tubular tires and rims. Dealers will be glad to learn that Mme Clément has entrusted the distribution of these articles to a Paris firm, to be named later.]

Porte-bagages LE COMBINÉ

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This luggage carrier is called one of the great novelties of the Salon. As the figure shows, it has a metal case forming the body of the carrier, closed by a pressed tray that serves as its lid. The mounting stays are adjustable, and extra notches can even be cut in them for children’s bicycles. It is a specialty of the Maison J. Dunois et Fils, the well-known Vincennes firm whose Mistral pumps (treated elsewhere in the issue) have a solid reputation. The same firm’s Mistral-Sport grip is all steel and has been tried with success by many racers.]

Productions CYCLO

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. “Dérailleurs Cyclo” are called two words that have become almost synonyms. The make’s 1950 production includes a front derailleur with rigid or cable control and a rear derailleur, type Sport and type Route, notable for being single-cable, which distinguished itself at the Tour de France Cyclotouriste. The make’s chainwheels need no more praise, but the paper notes its latest product, the « Rapid-Cyclo » quick-release hub, a hub with a spindle … (the text breaks off here and continues on page 23).]

(Suite page 23.)

[Two line drawings: beside the Cibié section, the type 27 dynamo shown partly cut away to reveal its roller spindle, magnet and coil, with its mounting bracket; beside the Le Combiné section, the luggage carrier with its lid raised on the metal case and its two long adjustable stays. No signature is visible on either drawing.]

[The image is cut above an advertisement at the foot of the page, which is not part of the record.]

— Page 3 —
[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Productions CYCLO, continued from page 21: the « Rapid-Cyclo » hub has a chain-support device that lets the wheel be removed by shifting the chain onto a fixed sector attached to the cable hanger. The paper calls this a very great advance, both because it fits cable hangers of different thicknesses (important among other things for changing a wheel) and because the rider no longer soils his hands with chain grease. Besides these products, Cyclo makes high-class chainwheels for the cyclemotor.]

Compteurs DATAY

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This firm, well known for measuring instruments, makes bicycle speedometers reading to 60 km/h with odometers to 10,000 km, driven by an elastic belt; speedometers for light motorcycles reading to 80 km/h, also with odometer, gear-driven, and to 120 km/h with a large drive ring; and headlamp-speedometers with vertical or side mounting.]

Potence D.F.V.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Not a discovery, the paper says, but one of the touches touring cyclists value when they are useful, practical and embellish the machine: the new D.F.V. stem has an identity plate screwed to its flat part, handsome to look at and easily removed for engraving. The paper mentions in passing the stems of the D.F.V. (Dauphinoise de Fabrications Vélocipédiques), which pass the anodic coloring test in full; it says that test proves the homogeneity of the metal even better than the A.P.M. label to which they are entitled, and assures that they do not break.]

Pneus DUNLOP

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The quality of Dunlop’s tread rubber for bicycle and motorcycle tires is called the highest; the firm has concentrated on profiles and presentation, especially for the cycle. A whole series is shown: the classic tire in black, red or blue; bronze coloring in the « Fort » quality; in the « Travail Dur » quality, the « 1.000 dents » tread with a stronger cover and a very tough carcass; also the light 700 C tire, the light and tandem 650 and the light 700 C of the hand-made type (« façon main »). For mechanically propelled machines Dunlop offers tires suited to every type across the range of motorcycles.]

L’EMBOUTISSAGE INDUSTRIEL

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Noticed at the Emboutissage Industriel stand: a new version of the well-known Rota brakes, in which parts formerly made of steel are coated with nickel or chrome, or in which the light alloy parts are even replaced by extra-light stainless steel with 18 % chromium.]

[A line drawing at the upper left shows the Rapid-Cyclo quick-release hub in a rear dropout, with the chain carried on the fixed sector beside the sprocket and the quick-release lever with its knurled knob. No signature is visible.]

[The image is cut above an advertisement at the foot of the page, which is not part of the record.]

— Page 4 —
Fabrications F.B.L.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Fabrications Brevetées du Languedoc (F.B.L.) showed a remarkable series of pump connectors (detachable, swiveling and so on), their quick-fitting cable-housing clip and their nut-tightening wrench. Their most interesting products for the dealer, besides these standard articles, are the F.B.L. repair stand for cycles, mounted on a base plate 42 cm in diameter, with a central column carrying the device, a small intermediate tray for tools, a central hub with two clamps and a fork for centering and truing bicycle and motorcycle wheels. The firm also makes articulated cranks for disabled riders and an excellent stand for cyclemotors.]

Poignée F.O.B.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The paper calls this lever « le servo-frein du cycle ». Progressively geared down by a pulley, it is offset and gives extraordinary ease of braking: a child can lock the wheel with one finger. The cable always pulls in line, avoiding the frequent fraying. Most remarkable, after braking it releases the brake instantly with a simple click, leaving room for the fattest tires to pass.]

Fabrications J. FONTAINE

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. J. Fontaine has just created a tubular-tire bag that sits behind the saddle and holds the spare tubular and the cyclist’s small cape. It fastens to the seat post with a strap that is part of the bag itself.]

Garde-boue GAGNION

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This Nemours firm showed its O. G. I. mudguards for cycles, of pointed-arch section, in « alumax » 8 and 10/10, very rigid and light. It has made several models in this style with variants, so that its production follows the latest fashion in dressing bicycles.]

Selles et sacoches GAUTHIER

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Établissements Gauthier of Lyon, founded in 1885, are now making very remarkable saddles and bags in plastic. They make these waterproof, shape-keeping and tear-proof articles in their 7,000 m2 factory, where nearly 200 workers are employed.]

Selles GALLET

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Gallet Compétition racing saddle no. 28 S is cut from butt leather slowly tanned with oak bark after a long stay in the pit. It is waterproofed and mounted on a special 56-tooth frame with reinforced teeth; its tension is adjustable (solid rivets). Besides its usual saddles, the firm also showed leather and canvas bags for front and rear carriers and full-leather bags, sturdy, elegant and of large capacity.]

Dérailleurs HURET

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Huret has specialized in the derailleur. Its models: « Tour de France » (3, 4 and 5 speeds, freewheel ranges from 14 to 24 teeth, 8 teeth between chainrings); « Touriste » (3, 4 and 5 speeds, for all freewheel and double-chainring ranges, mounted on a one-piece dropout); « Randonneur » for long-distance touring (chain tensioning by double lever, supplied with a two-armed brazed-on support and a double-control lever); « Spécial-rétro » (3 and 4 speeds, for the back-pedal brake hub); and front derailleurs with cable and rigid control. Its racing record with Jodet, Barbotin, Mahé, Molinéris, Tacca, Bobet and others is called eloquent.]

Pneus et boyaux HUTCHINSON

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Hutchinson is one of the classic names in rubber and makes all rubber articles for bicycles, motorcycles and so on. In racing the make is a leading name with a prestigious record: cycling victories in the Championnat de France du Cross, the Tour d’Italie du Nord, the Tour de France, the Championnat d’Italie, Paris-Bruxelles and others.]

Fourche JEANNERET

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. A flexible front fork weighing only 950 grams, already described by the paper, giving great comfort and valuable safety on bad roads. It was designed and built by Henri Jeanneret, world motorcycle record holder, which the paper calls a guarantee.]

Pneu-boyau JENATZY

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. An article for touring cyclists: this tire-tubular combines all the advantages of the tubular with those of the clincher. It is as light as a hand-made tire, lasts much longer, runs perfectly true and weighs only 485 grams. It is made in all sizes, for cycles and tandems.]

Spécialités JOURLAIT

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Maison Jourlait created the « Rigid » chain case. It distributes the « Vitem » three-speed hub, called a true gearbox for the cycle: all the sprockets are constantly in mesh and turn in the same direction, so there is no braking friction. The mechanism is housed in a sealed case of special alloy; the control is placed under the handlebar and worked easily by the thumb. The gears change in any order, at rest or while riding.]

Poignée L.C.L.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This all-steel lever has a clamp with no hook and no projecting bolts, for a 23.5 handlebar. It is made in racing or road form on request and also in die-forged dural. Its advantages, as the figure shows, are easy fitting, a clamping that does not damage the handlebar, elegance and strength.]

[Two drawings: under the Gauthier section, a sprung saddle in three-quarter view, grained cover with stitched edge and rivets, coil springs under the cantle and a name plate on the cantle reading “HENRI GAUTH…” (the rest hidden by the curve); beside the L.C.L. section, a small line drawing of the brake lever and its clamp, with the handlebar shown in dashed outline. No artist’s signature is visible on either drawing. The page number “— 25 —” is printed at the foot.]

— Page 5 —
Spécialités MAGURA

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. « L’Accessoire Moto-Cycliste » presents the Magura specialties, among them twist grips, levers and handlebars of the same name, complete handlebars for light motorcycles and motorcycles, the « Amo » luggage clamp (clamping arms that fold from back to front over the load, held by a trap-type spring), the simple and sturdy « Eka » chain guide, the retractable « Amo-Duo » side stand, praised for its simplicity, and the « Eka » side stand, adjustable by an instant telescopic system. The paper calls it a magnificent range of highly utilitarian products.]

Blocage MAILLARD

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Not strictly a quick release, though it achieves the same result: a very ingenious method for removing and refitting a bicycle wheel quickly. A tap with the palm and the wheel drops out; a simple push and it goes back in place, automatically centered and locked.]

Boyaux MANERA

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Shown on the stand of the Cycles Colomb, a novelty expected to cause a sensation among dealers and racers: tubular tires with nylon bias cords that are rot-proof, very strong, very supple and very efficient. They come in « piste » and « route » types, weighing from 100 grams for the first to 300 for the second.]

Jantes MÉPHISTO

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Made as clincher rims and tubular rims, they give outstanding results thanks to internal blocks that let the wheel keep its spokes fully tensioned. They are made by the Établissements M. Laroche of Nanterre, who have adopted the name « Reine des jantes ».]

Jante

Pompes MISTRAL

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. No bicycle without a pump, and above all a good pump: under the Mistral name two high-class pumps are made, one in chrome-plated brass with an extra-fine polish and the special « Radieuse Sport », the pump of professional racers, which saves time (480 x 24).]

Anti-vols NEIMAN

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. These well-known anti-theft locks work by locking the front fork. They are fitted as standard on Aiglon, Gnôme et Rhône, Griffon, Monet-Goyon, Météore, Peugeot and Terrot bicycles among others, and on Automoto, Griffon, Monet-Goyon, Météore, Peugeot, S.E.C.M.A., Terrot, Triumph, Zundapp and F.N. light motorcycles and motorcycles among others. They adapt to the cycle the well-known Neiman automobile anti-theft lock.]

Colle à boyaux PARAMALGAM

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. M. Bretou presents Paramalgam, a very effective tubular cement that replaces adhesive tape and allows several tubulars to be changed in succession. The firm also offers a puncture-sealing compound for tires, a shellac and a special coating for bias cord, all faithful to its well-known standards of quality.]

Cale-pieds PATURAUD

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The oldest name in toe clips and straps, but still in the forefront. Three novelties for 1950: a strapless toe clip for town use that lets the foot leave and regain the pedal very easily; a reinforced (doubled) toe clip for cyclo-cross and long-distance touring; and a leather pedal cover with reinforced, convertible slots. The bicycle of Lionel Brans (the Paris-Saigon ride), that of Fiando (a ride across the Sahara) and those of Bercault and Christophe, who are setting out to ride around the world, were all shown with Paturaud toe clips, straps and bags.]

Le dispositif Piesekecho, représenté ci-dessus, protège contre le froid, la pluie, la boue. Il se fixe instantanément.

Moyeux freins-tambour E. PERRIN

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. M. E. Perrin, director of the Lardy factory at Boën-sur-Lignon and well known in industry, has perfected a new drum-brake hub for cycles and cyclemotors. Light and elegant, it is called a small marvel of mechanics with a perfect efficiency. It has three shoes (« secteurs ») instead of two, the third floating and acting against the other two, giving smoother and much more effective braking, and its working guarantees its life. It also gives perfect wheel centering, removes the fitting problems and allows spokes of equal length.]

Spécialités PERTUISOT

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Everything for the motorcycle is found at this firm, which many motorcyclists regard as the source for spare parts and accessories. It also rebuilds all connecting-rod assemblies by special methods and rebores cylinders, supplying complete pistons.]

Billes P.W.B.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. These precision balls are made in chrome steel and carbon steel (tolerance 0.005). P.W.B. ball retainers, fitted with the make’s chrome-steel balls, are an improvement for bottom brackets and headsets, giving easy fitting, smoother running and a saving of time (no lost balls).]

[Two drawings: beside the Méphisto section, two rim sections cut open to show a nipple seated in the internal block, labeled “Jante boyau” and “Jante Pneu”; under the Paturaud section, a line drawing of a pedal and toe clip fitted with the « Piesekecho » foot cover, the foot shown in dashed outline. No signature is visible on either drawing. The page number “— 27 —” is printed at the foot.]

— Page 6 —
Moyeu-frein PERRY

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This freewheel hub with back-pedal brake works on a known and proven principle. It fits all cycles, with or without derailleur and with or without motor, and its powerful braking gives complete safety in all weather. It is distributed in France by Argaud, « La Maison de Gros des Vélocistes ».]

Le Stand PERRY au Salon.

Projecteurs PYB

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. These cycle headlamps are made of aviation-quality alloy. Their lines are especially elegant, as are those of the firm’s dynamos (to be treated later). Their formula: no terminal, no nut, a wire clip and nothing more between the front lamp and the rear light.]

Selles REYDEL

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Rubber cable is far more comfortable than metal springs, which have hard spots; very supple, it is silent and light, and its special construction makes it almost everlasting: saddles fitted with a « sandow » (rubber cord) suspension more than 15 years ago are still on the road. The latest Reydel models, adopted by the major constructors, put a foam-rubber layer between this web of rubber cord and the saddle cushion, improving comfort further.]

Feu rouge ROTATIF

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. An innovation whose design the engraving explains: a reflector cone carried on a hub. With it the cyclist is sure to be seen at night and even in fog; the system avoids burned-out bulbs and damage to mudguards and rear lights.]

Éclairages ROBERT Frères

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Rob lighting (Établissements Robert Frères, of Étupes) shows its classic 2.7-watt dynamo models; the make expects to bring out a 3.7-watt unit at the end of October. Both dynamos are pressure-cast in zamak and called extremely strong. The electromagnet is in one piece; the roller is steel or ebonite at the customer’s choice, with a rubber roller in preparation. The unit can be dismantled and has a disengaging device designed for regular, long running. In lighting the paper notes one new article, the red reflector-lamp and two classic ones, the aluminum red lamp and the plastic red lamp, as well as a very fine series of chrome-plated brass headlamps.]

Cale-pieds J. RUHIER

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Établissements Ruhier, toe-clip specialists, showed at the Salon du Cycle, stand 37, their « Compétition » toe clips (lightened and reinforced) and « Compétition » straps in colored treated leather with instant tightening and release.]

Le Stand RUHIER au Salon.

Vente exclusive en gros de ces articles : Établissements J. RUHIER, 81, rue de Reuilly, Paris (12e), (Tél. DOR 57-41)

Sacoches SABLE

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This firm makes bags in various plastics, notably carrier bags that detach individually and have a handle so they become traveling bags, and a series of bags for every need, from the child’s model to the motorcycle bag used by former champions of the Tour Cyclotouriste.]

Fabrications S.B.A.F.M.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Société Bourbonnaise des Applications du Fil Métallique, of Cusset (Allier), makes brake and derailleur cables, nylon-covered cables, housings for brakes and derailleurs and complete cable-and-housing assemblies with ferrules and housing stops for derailleurs, bicycles and motorcycles. It also makes all articles in its technical class: spokes, springs, tire bead wires and so on.]

[Two halftone photographs and one drawing. The first photograph shows the Perry stand: a curved counter with displays of hubs, a large “P” panel with the circular “PERRY” mark, posters and a smaller Perry sign, with a sign at the left that appears to read “MOYEUX FREIN / CONTRE PÉDALAGE” and other Salon signs blurred in the background. The second shows the Ruhier stand: signs reading “J. RUHIER” on the wall and on a smaller panel, a large toe-clip display piece on the wall and white display counters of toe clips and straps. The drawing, under the Rotatif section, shows the conical rotating red reflector mounted on a hub between two flanges. No photographer’s credit or artist’s signature is visible. The page number “— 29 —” is printed at the foot.]

— Page 7 —
Dérailleur SIMPLEX

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Another great name in derailleurs, which distinguished itself in the last Tour de France and at the World Championships. On its automatic-tensioning type the tensioner works automatically at every gear change, keeping the same chain slack (adjustable when fitted) whatever the sprocket size. The system follows the Simplex principle of normal chain wrap on every freewheel sprocket. A safety stop limits the tilt of the derailleur on this neat, compact unit.]

Catadioptres SOUBITEZ

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This make, among the very first in lighting and signaling, has developed high-class reflectors of a special technique (tiny glass beads set into the surface). Shown are the « Catasol », a simple unit, and the « Catamixt », a reflector combined with a rear lamp, a particularly sturdy assembly.]

Freins SOVA

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Besides its known brakes and wing nuts, this maker showed a new series of typical « course » (racing) brakes, already known abroad under the « Weinmann » name, very carefully made in the usual Sova quality. All the parts (arms, levers and lever hoods) are made of die-forged duralumin, a guarantee of strength and lightness.]

Béquille STABILEX

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This stand, made of « alpax » (a high-strength alloy), does not break. It is light and practical, and its steel leaf spring keeps it from moving while riding and from making an unpleasant rattle.]

Roulement « STARK »

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The « Stark » constructions (Établissements Chénet, of St-Étienne), well known to specialists, have developed and patented a new bearing: one row of balls bears on the cylindrical part, and a second row, carried by the conical part of the axle, bears on the first. These extra balls, pressing on the normal bearing and on the cup, compensate for wear in a way both supple and firm. With « Stark » the cyclist gets a perfect, lasting bearing that does not go out of adjustment.]

Dérailleur SUPER-CHAMPION

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The new Super-Champion derailleur, model « Super-mondial », is made for racing and touring with 3, 4 and 5 speeds and allows a range of up to 24 teeth as well as a double chainring. It is characterized by simplicity (a minimum of parts), strength and rigidity (a single pivot and a single spring).]

Potence TIGRA

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The new chrome-steel Tigra stem is made of two steel tubes joined mechanically; the handlebar clamp is formed by flaring, without welding. The quill is pressed into the stem arm and brazed, and the rear of the stem’s lower part is closed by a colored plug. The front, as the figure shows, is cut like a frame lug and pressed into the body of the stem itself. Two inserted clamping pieces lock the handlebar absolutely, even a chrome-steel one.]

Moyeux TORPÉDO

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. These freewheel and brake hubs, in Touriste and Course models, are made of top-grade materials by special methods drawn from the latest technical progress, and so are high-precision, high-quality articles. Their simple system, which has distinguished itself for 40 years, gives frictionless freewheeling, very simple engagement, very smooth running and safe, progressive braking with automatic release.]

Outillages V.A.R.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This firm, specialist in tools for bicycle and motorcycle dealers, makes the « Serrax », which holds any hub axle from 7 to 11 mm in a vise. Two steel jaws with springs have at their center a hole tapped at a pitch of 10/100e, so that a simple squeeze clamps the axle; the axle goes in and comes out of the jaws instantly. The axle thread is protected and the hub is held firmly in the vise.]

Productions VICKERS

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. This Grenoble firm makes many rubber accessories: footrest rubbers and grips for motorcycles and light motorcycles, knee grips for all motorcycles and kick-start and gear-selector rubbers. One of its most interesting articles is the Vic anti-slip cap, which stops dynamos slipping thanks to its inner roller and safety ring.]

[Three drawings: beside the Soubitez section, two rear-mudguard reflectors of the make (the « Catasol » and the « Catamixt » with its lamp housing), each with a small plate reading “SOUBITEZ”; beside the Tigra section, a bold line drawing of the stem cut away to show the expander bolt and the handlebar clamp; under the Torpédo section, a rear coaster-brake hub with sprocket and brake arm, lettered “Torpedo” (twice, on the shell and on the brake arm), “System Sachs” and “D.R.P.”, with the winged-wheel emblem on the shell. No artist’s signature is visible. The page number “— 31 —” is printed at the foot.]
