La fine di un grande campione. Allo “Sportpaleis„ di Anversa, mentre si disputava il Gran Premio della Stampa sportiva i corridori ciclisti Van Looy, Voorting e Stan Ockers investivano il collega Sterckx proprio nel momento in cui questi stava rientrando in pista per riprendere la corsa. Tutti caddero; tre si rialzarono, l’ex-campione del mondo, invece, rimase per terra svenuto. Portato all’ospedale dove gli fu riscontrata la frattura del cranio, fu sottoposto a un intervento chirurgico. Stan Ockers spirava il giorno dopo senza aver ripreso conoscenza.
