[An upright advertisement in black on cream, enclosed in a double rule. “AVEC L’APPAREIL” runs across the head in widely letter-spaced roman capitals, with the initials “F. L.” under it in very large slab-serif capitals and the patent line “BREVETÉ S.G.D.G.” set small in two lines to their right. The claim below is set in two lines of heavy italic capitals. At the center a line engraving, drawn in open outline with hatched shading, shows a right hand holding the tool between thumb and forefinger as a pencil is held: a fluted cylindrical paint reservoir stands upright above a knurled collar, below which a small wheel and an adjustable curved guide run along an edge, with a second hand steadying the work at the right. Two lines of italic follow as a caption. The price block is set large in bold roman, the millimeter figure carried as a small superior abbreviation, and two lines of lighter roman give the terms of sale. The firm’s name stands near the foot in very heavy shaded sans serif capitals with “(Service E)” in letter-spaced roman beneath it, and the street address, town and telephone number close the panel on one bold line inside the lower rule. No second color, no agency mark and no artist’s signature appear.]
