Dans l’ascension du Puy de Dôme, le duel engagé entre Ockers et Robic, pour la seconde place du classement général, s’est poursuivi. « Biquet » avait lancé l’offensive pour revenir sur les échappés. Sans attendre, Ockers et Coppi avaient répondu. Le « campionissimo », qui roule à un train d’enfer, lâchera ses compagnons pour enlever l’étape. Robic reprendra du temps à Ockers.
