Warum geklebte verbindungsstellen ?
Das Kleben ist eine viel verwendete Technik in der Raumfahrt und Luftfahrt, und zwar aus folgenden
Gründen :
— ohne Einfluß auf den metallurgischen Zustand der verwendeten Legierungen – im Gegensatz zum
Schweissen und zum Hartlöten,
— gleichmäßige Verteilung der Spannung,
— Dichte und Schutz der Verbindungsstücke,
— entsprechende Elastizität der Verbindungsstücke zur Abnahme der Vibrationen,
— ausgezeichnete mechanische Eigenschafte.
Die messbaren Eigenschaften der geklebten Verbindungsstellen sind höher, vorausgesetzt daß :
— die Oberflächenbehandlung vor dem Kleben sorgfältig durchgeführt wurde (mit Ultraschall),
— die Vorschriften zum Kleben und Hartwerden genau eingehalten wurden,
— die Tragweite und Oberfläche der Verbindungsstellen ausreicht und geprüft wurde, so daß der
Klebstoff in den Paßstücken voll wirksam werden kann.

pourquoi des assemblages collés ?
Le collage est une technologie très utilisée en aérospatiale et aéronautique, pour les raisons
suivantes :
— pas d’influence sur l’état métallurgique des alliages utilisés, contrairement au soudage et au
soudo-brasage,
— régularité de répartition des contraintes,
— étanchéité des joints et protection de ceux-ci,
— élasticité relative des joints, réduisant les vibrations,
— excellentes caractéristiques mécaniques,
— excellente résistance à la corrosion et au vieillissement.
Les performances des assemblages collés sont élevées, à condition que :
— la préparation des surfaces avant collage soit soigneusement effectuée,
— les conditions de collage et de durcissement soient parfaitement respectées,
— les portées et surfaces d’assemblage soient suffisantes et étudiées de telle façon que
l’existence de la colle dans les raccords soit maîtrisée de manière absolue.
Why bonding ?
Jointing by adhesives is a technique widely used in aerospace and aeronautics for the following
reasons :
— it has no influence or effect on the properties of the alloys forming the joint, contrary to
jointing by welding or brazing,
— it affords an even distribution of stress,
— joints are sealed and protected,
— there is a degree of elasticity which reduces shock,
— mechanical properties are excellent,
— there is a high degree of resistance to corrosion and to ageing.
Bonded constructions give excellent results provided that :
— the surface to be joined are scrupulously prepared before the adhesive is applied,
— recommended procedure is carefully followed and time is allowed for hardening,
— weight bearing suaces and jointing surfaces are adequate and so designed that the amount of
adhesive within the lugs is precisely controlled.

brevets en FRANCE et à l’Etranger.

round one. Each page opens with an outline of the tube cross-section drawn large at the top, then a
photograph of the bare frameset and fork laid out on black: royal blue with polished lugs and stays
for the lozenge, red for the round. Both carry the CONSTRUCTION GARANTIE roundel with 979 above the
Vitus name.
The whole brochure is written in four languages at once and its structure makes the argument twice.
Page 4 carries the German and Spanish versions of “why bonded joints”, page 5 carries the French
and English, each under its own national flag, so the pair has to be read together to have the
answer in any one language. The English is a translation done in France and reads like it, which is
itself part of the record.
The technical claims are precise and worth having. The alloy is 5086 aluminum-magnesium at a
density of 2.8, the wall thickness is 16/10 of a millimeter, and the surface is anodized to 12 to
15 microns. The frame is claimed to be comparable with top-of-range steel frames at about 30
percent less weight. The lozenge section is offered in royal blue only and the round in a choice of
five colors, both in all frame sizes. The case for gluing rather than welding or brazing is made on
aerospace grounds: adhesive does not alter the metallurgical state of the alloy, it spreads stress
evenly, it seals the joint and it damps vibration.
The credit line at the foot of both pages names the two workshops that developed the frame and hold
the patents jointly, the Ateliers de la Rive and Angenieux CLB. Page 5 adds that both Vitus 979
Duralinox and Vitus Plus Carbone were helped by ANVAR, the French national innovation agency.
That last line dates the sheets. Vitus Plus Carbone is named as an existing product alongside the
979, so these leaves are from the second half of the 1980s rather than from the 979’s introduction.
