Steve Jones: Age 25 — Former British Junior 25-mile champion. Represented Britain in Moscow Olympics. Twice winner of Baracchi Trophy in Italy. Manager’s comments: “Very experienced, deceptively fast and strong individualist.”
John Wainwright: Age 21 — Prolific winner of schoolboy races. Represented Britain in 1980 World Junior Championships. Member of 1983 TI Raleigh/Campagnolo Team, with 2 Pro-Am wins. Manager’s comments: “Youngest team member who has already benefited enormously from a year as a Pro. Will really develop into a potent team member with us.”
Malcolm Elliott: Age 22 — Double Commonwealth gold medallist. Best all-round British rider 1983. Winner of 6 stages of Milk Race 1983. Winner of 2 stages Sealink International 1983. Manager’s comments: “Very fast finisher – physically and tactically strong.”
Dave Miller: Age 23 — Represented Scotland in Commonwealth Games 1982. Represented Britain many times. 21 wins in France and England in 1982. 13 wins in France 1983. Manager’s comments: “One of the few who can catch Malcolm Elliott at the finish.”
Nigel Bloor: Age 24 — Represented Britain in 1977 Junior World Championships. 10 wins 1982. 5 wins 1983. Represented Britain in Peace Race 1983. Manager’s comments: “Lots of unrealised potential and a fast finisher. This first season as a Pro will bring out his talents.”
George Shaw, Team Manager — Managed successful Raleigh teams in the 1960s and early 1970s. He has managed professional teams throughout the continent and has also guided many of Britain’s top amateur riders in a professional career.
