[The front cover, printed in green and black on cream stock. A deep green band fills the top third: at its upper left “Fondateur : Félix Lainé” in small roman, at its upper right the date and “65e année” in small bold sans-serif capitals, and across the middle the masthead, “L’OFFICIEL” in tall condensed roman capitals reversed out in cream, followed by “du cycle, du motocycle” in condensed capitals and “et du camping” in thin capitals; under it the address runs in a dark green unicase face that mixes capital and lowercase forms. At the right a cream-outlined inverted triangle holds the journal’s emblem, a chainwheel with a cross of spokes ringed by small cream silhouettes of figures and wheels; a double cream rule crosses the band below the masthead and the line “1er numéro de compte rendu du Salon 1955” follows in heavy dark sans-serif capitals. The lower two-thirds is a Marchal advertisement on a cream panel framed by a green border. A slanting green brush stroke at the top carries the slogan in cream and green hand lettering. Below it at the left a spark plug is drawn in black line with hatching, standing at a slant in a cloud of green stipple, its porcelain lettered “Marchal” in script and “CORINDON”; at the upper right a winged engine cylinder with an exhaust pipe flies to the left trailing speed lines and a puff of smoke, drawn as a cartoon in black line. The right half of the panel carries “Bougie Corindon” in bold sans-serif capitals, a small shield with a cross between “isolant” and “SAVOIE”, a bold lowercase line and a spaced-capital list of sixteen motorcycle makers; beneath it “Condensateur d’allumage” in bold capitals over a torn-paper label reading “à bain d’huile” in green script, and two cylindrical condensers drawn in black line on green stipple, one labeled “HUILE 52”, the other bearing a shield with an “M” and a second “HU… 5…” label turned half out of view. Green hand-lettered slogans run beneath each drawing, and “MARCHAL” crosses the foot of the panel in huge black sans-serif capitals. A small green monogram, a vertical stroke crossed by short bars with a curl above, sits at the lower right of the condenser stipple and cannot be read with confidence. In the green border at the foot, centered, is the oval OJD mark lettered “Diffusion · Publicité” on a ribbon, the words on its inner ring too small to read. A red rectangular library stamp is struck over the bottom of “MARCHAL”: its upper line is hidden under the black letters and its lower line reads “22 NOV 1955”, the third figure of the year weakly struck. At the top of the green band, beside the founder’s name, “n° 22” is written by hand in dark pencil with a long trailing stroke.]
