Parmi les Réunions du Salon du Cycle

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. An unsigned report, opening with an italic introduction, on the trade meetings held around the 1950 Salon du Cycle et du Motocycle, which the paper says passed in warm professional sympathy and a marked spirit of efficiency and service; it promises the substance of the leaders’ speeches in later issues. Tuesday 3 October, at the press reception: M. Lemarié, President of the « Syndicat des Fabricants d’Équipements », said that the manufacturers, large or small, are mostly the successors of the bicycle’s first pioneers, and that the French cycle and motorcycle equipment industries comprise more than 300 firms employing 16,000 people, with annual turnover that reached 19 milliards (billion francs) in 1949. Monday 9 October: a plenary session at the head office of the « Syndicat Général des Motocistes et Vélocistes », led by its committee under M. Ginter-Germain, President, with MM. Dufresne and Catinat, Vice-Presidents (reported elsewhere in the issue). The same day, at the Hôtel Lutetia, the banquet of the « Chambre Fédérale du Commerce en Gros du Cycle » under M. Hubert, with M. Frédéric Dupont, Député de Paris, at the head table; M. Hubert spoke on the role of the wholesaler and on cooperation between trade associations, and M. Robert Lajeunesse, President of the Presse Corporative, on the trade press as the permanent link. Wednesday 11 October: the banquet of the « Chambre Syndicale Nationale du Cycle » under the honorary chairmanship of M. Pinay, Minister of Public Works, Transport and Tourism, with M. Villiers, President of the Confédération Nationale du Patronat Français, and Baron Petiet; its president M. Philippe Girardet described the bicycle makers’ recovery, set out the state of the French market and asked the government to lighten taxes, paperwork and controls so that French quality could compete abroad and against coming foreign competition in France. Representatives of all the trade groups, among them the « Syndicat Général des Motocistes et Vélocistes », and foreign delegations attended. The paper congratulates M. Cochard, General Secretary of the two Chambres Syndicales of wholesalers and of manufacturers, who organized both banquets. A separate paragraph covers the banquet of the « Comité Intersyndical de la Motoculture » for the 27th Exposition Internationale de Motoculture, at the Collège Saint-Vincent, Senlis (Oise), on Thursday 5 October, attended by M. Pflimlin, Minister of Agriculture, who spoke of the solidarity of farmer, industrialist, importer and dealer-repairer; M. Horace Marchal, President of the Comité, replied that motor cultivation is no second-rank industry, that the tractor is not the poor relation of the automobile and that after-sales service needs skilled labor (both speeches are quoted briefly in italics). « L’Officiel du Cycle et du Motocycle » was represented at all these events by M. Catinat, its Editor in Chief.]
