PRODUCTION DES ANCIENS ÉTABTS PAUL MAURY
[The cover is printed in black and green on a green ground. At the top, a framed white panel carries the masthead: “L’OFFICIEL” in tall condensed display capitals, the subtitle in heavy sans-serif capitals beneath, the founder’s name at the left and the date and volume at the right. Below it, a second framed panel with a multi-line inner border holds a full advertisement for the “Le Coq” bicycle bell. The slogan “Exigez de votre fournisseur le Timbre” is in brush script at the upper left, with “Le Coq” in large brush lettering set on a slant. Behind it, a target of concentric green rings fills the center. Two large chrome bells are drawn in bold black with hatched shading: one at the upper right seen from above, its embossed dome lettered “LE COQ PARIS” around a central boss, its lever tab lettered “LE COQ”; the other at the lower left seen from the side with its handlebar clamp, its lever tab also lettered “LE COQ”. At the lower right, a round medallion shows a crowing rooster’s head over the words “LE COQ”. A green band runs across the foot of the panel above the line “PRODUCTION DES ANCIENS ÉTABTS PAUL MAURY” in sans-serif capitals. Signed “MONNEINS.” at the lower left, beneath the clamp of the lower bell. A red library stamp in a rectangle, “D. L. 27 OCT 1950”, is struck on this copy in the lower left of the masthead panel, and a round red library stamp (the Bibliothèque nationale’s periodicals stamp, with “D.L.” in its center) is struck on this copy over the green rings near the rooster medallion.]
