Chapitre Second

Les volants magnétiques A.B.G.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Thanks to the A.B.G. company’s experience in aircraft-engine ignition, the flywheels of the mark give an ignition as strong as the best magnetos and lighting that meets the demands of the Highway Code. The rotor is made of four magnets and four pole masses assembled by a light alloy cast in a chill mold, so the whole is very strong and cannot be deformed. The coils, condenser and contact breaker are mounted on the stator and arranged to be interchangeable and easy to remove; the coils, for example, receive no machining after mounting and so can be replaced easily by the user. Coils and condensers are made with the materials and processes used for aircraft magnetos, and the primary-current breaker, often sensitive to wear, receives particular care.]

La Société A.B.G. réalise trois dispositifs d’éclairage :
— Un pour fonctionnement sans batterie, éclairage alternatif 12 V ;

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The A.B.G. flywheel gives, without a miss, 8 mm sparks measured on BNA spark gaps at 130 r.p.m., with or without the lighting running. The length of spark obtainable without a miss depends little on speed and so allows engines to be lit and started easily in the worst conditions: highly compressed engines, plugs that leak and plugs with electrodes set too far apart.]

Les gants ALDIAS

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. With the great cold approaching, motorcyclists not yet equipped for the start of winter must do so, and gloves deserve special mention: besides protecting against cold they make driving pleasant and are one of the main safety elements, since fingers numbed by cold lose agility and reflexes become much slower, if not absent, so that a quick action on the controls ends in an accident. The Société Aldias has created a special motorcycle glove that protects the wrists as well as the hands and leaves the fingers fully agile despite wind and cold. The reputation of the Société de Millau is called the best guarantee of quality. Aldias states that it sells exclusively to wholesalers of the Chambre syndicale du Cycle et de la Moto.]

Les moulages sous pression ALUVAC

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Under the Aluvac mark the Fonderie de Précision de Nanterre makes more than half of the pressure die castings produced in France. The process forces molten metal (aluminum, magnesium or zinc alloy) into a steel mold, taking the mold’s imprint in its finest details apart from shrinkage, so very precise parts are possible, 1/10 mm being routinely held. Crankcases, cylinder heads, cylinders and flywheel magnetos are made in large quantities, as are grips, brake bodies, chainwheels, hub shells and kickstands. The text calls the field of application of pressure die casting in the cycle and motorcycle industry extremely wide.]

Les productions A.M.A.C.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The A.M.A.C. stand again received many visitors. It showed the range of carburetors of world renown and, among them, the new type 922 carburetor for mopeds, with a needle jet, a controlled enricher, an adjustable idle, a silent air filter and a settling fuel filter; long studied and well developed, it is said to bring appreciable progress in engine running. The other A.M.A.C. specialties are printed as a list.]

On a pu en outre, retrouver les autres spécialités A.M.A.C. :
— La poignée tournante à tirage rectiligne du câble, ouverture rapide, fixation du câble sans soudure, pouvant se monter sur tous guidons sans aucun usinage ou modification ;

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. To meet the demands of a growing clientele, the Société Chazal-Rouchouse has been obliged to begin large-series manufacture of the whole range of mufflers up to 250 cc. Three years earlier it created the Snob for 50 cc; its new model, the Fusée, for larger engines, required a very long study and development.]

(Suite page 93.)

91

— Page 2 —
[Ebykr summary, continuing the Chazal-Rouchouse piece from page 91; the article’s text is not reproduced. The same works also make various standard fairings for the main engines and special fairings used by major firms, and some manufacturers have models made for them exclusively. The firm can supply all tubing from 22 to 40, curved to the customer’s wish, and of course continues to make its well-known fenders and chain guards, remarkable for elegance and strength.]

Les COUVRE-PIEDS DE FRANCE

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. With the “Kangourou” sleeping bag, thanks to its new design, the camper stays warm on damp or very cold nights: besides the inner filling of fine extra-light wool, an outer pocket takes a quilt of fine down at will, held by a zipper, and an opening at both ends of the pocket avoids the build-up of perspiration the down causes. The quilt can also be used at the camper’s own home. The text calls it a new step toward comfort in camping, since with this model the user is as in his own bed. It is made by the Couvre-pieds de France.]

Les productions DUNLOP

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. J. Dupont, riding a Dilecta bicycle on Dunlop tubular tires, won the road championship of France brilliantly this year. The great firm is distinguished not only in tires but by products of impeccable quality and finish for the cycle and motorcycle, notably its excellent saddles and saddle covers for bicycles, motorized bicycles and motorcycles.]

Les volants magnétiques DYNEX

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Many scooters, motorized bicycles and fixed industrial engine sets carry Dynex flywheel magnetos, the Société d’Appareillage Electromagnétique having acquired very great experience. Several models are built, with the same arrangement and basic parts throughout. The flywheel uses the latest technical improvements and is called sturdy, clean, trouble-free, simple in build and strictly checked. Its rotor holds Ticonal magnets of oriented molecules, inserted in the casting; its steel hub has a threaded part for the flywheel puller; a cover shows three openings for easy adjustment of the breaker contacts. The text praises the firm’s very modern workshops and the finishing and inspection each part undergoes.]

Le frein-tambour DÉCÉLER

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Poor braking is frequent on mopeds, and with the Décéler system moped enthusiasts can ride without worry, having a powerful brake. The patented system, simple in design, changes the usual drum-brake construction very little and spreads pressure equally over the shoe linings so that both contribute to braking. Its principle is to let the shoe-opening cam move about the shoes’ pivot axis. When the brake is applied, the flat of the cam spreads the shoes normally until one lining touches the drum; as the cam keeps turning it reacts against the locked shoe and its axis shifts until the other lining also touches the drum, after which the cam’s effort acts equally on both shoes. The Établissements Bernardon, of Saint-Etienne, makers of the Décéler brake hubs, are also well known for their PAX pedals, which they originated, and Bernardon also supplies the Sprinter hubs, in particular the Sprinter 70 with large forged duralumin flanges.]

Les fourches F.C.R.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Société d’exploitation mécanique et électrique F.C.R., of Puteaux, makes forks for motorized bicycles and motorcycles.]

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. With the campaign against noise in full swing in Paris and other large cities, the question of mufflers, already of some interest, will grow in importance; but the noise of small engines is hard to “solve”, since for good running the engines must be used unthrottled while silence is often gained at the cost of power. The Société Gama, of Cusset (Allier), has studied the problem, in particular for engines of 40 to 100 cc. To reconcile output and silence rationally, one muffler had to be designed for each type of engine, since a device tuned for one engine does not suit another and standardizing is out of the question. Gama now equips the Junior, Ser, Himo and Motobloc engines and supplies many makers fitting Mistral, Alter, Vap and V.L.T.]

[Ebykr summary, below the engraving; the article’s text is not reproduced. A specially studied muffler has been fitted to each make, but every model follows the principle of the muffler submitted to the U.T.A.C. in the competition run by the Fédération française de Motocyclisme, which came first in output and fuel consumption and was only four phons from the quietest (50 cc class). The engraving, the text says, shows the firm’s latest creation for mopeds, a muffler that absolutely annihilates noise.]

Les lunettes et pare-visage GRAND-CHAVIN-LAMY

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Motorcycles and scooters now reach impressive speeds and so oblige the rider to wear goggles or a face shield. Grand-Chavin-Lamy, always in the forefront of progress, have created six top-quality “grand sport” goggle models in molded rubber with ventilation holes, which the text says guarantees comfort and safety. Interchangeable lenses in several colors can be supplied: colorless, brown and green against the sun, yellow and orange against fog. The firm can also supply a graded tint molded into the lens, or a small sun visor and screen against headlights. The rubber of the Slalom 45 and Moto-Simplex models can be black, gray, blue or red, and the same models exist in a smaller size for ladies and young people.]

Signalons en outre :
— Le masque moto extra-fort, en rhodoïd épais et monté avec de grosses vis à molettes ;

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Motorcyclists who must ride in all weather will be keenly interested in these models, which come in two qualities, the folding Spécial Moto model, a very strong article, and the lighter Anti-buée model.]

— Les compteurs V.D.O. pour cyclomoteurs ;
— Les pédales Wagner ;
— Les éclairages Berko, de renommée mondiale ;
— Les chaînes Brillant pour cycles et motos ;
— Les selles et sièges Brueninghaus à amortisseur hydraulique ;

[Ebykr summary of the remaining text; the article’s text is not reproduced. The firm insists in particular on one Praezision-Werke product, the Durex coaster hubs (moyeux Durex à rétropédalage) made for cycles and mopeds, whose success grows daily; backpedal braking is not new but has many followers, who like this very efficient method because the foot-operated brake allows more power than a manual action. The Maison A. Hérold also presents, again from Praezision-Werke, high-precision balls, ball bearings and ball rings for headsets and bottom brackets.]

Les chaussures cyclistes HUNGARIA

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Whatever the sport, suitable equipment is needed, and followers of cycling know good shoes are indispensable for long rides, as professional champions and amateurs riding for pleasure alike will agree.]

— Le pare-chocs oscillant, breveté S.G.D.G., garantissant le moteur et qui est maintenant universellement connu ;
— La poignée Jeanneret, modèle déposé, permettant de porter le VéloSolex sans fatigue ;
— Le fixe-bavette pour garde-boue avant ;

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The firm has just added the presentation of the Italian Super-géant V.B. anti-theft devices that fit the VéloSolex, Mobylettes and all mopeds.]

Les selles LEDA

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The series of saddles and seats for cycles, mopeds, motorized bicycles, motorcycles and scooters shown by the Établissements Ledanois is among the most complete. From 1948 the firm used vinyl plastics, which make saddles both supple and strong. Its newer rear seats, adjustable while riding with parallel-movement suspension, already have a solid reputation: the “racket stroke” is removed, the passenger can set the suspension to his weight on the move, the driver’s back cannot strike the adjusting wheel, and even on the worst roads the passenger keeps his position without sliding back or being thrown forward. The text ends, under the sign of safety, on a novelty for scooters, continued on the next page.]

94

— Page 4 —

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The products made by the Établissements Morel are extremely numerous, and only the main lines can be named: magnetos, ignition coils, relay contactors, motorcycle switches (giving at will, by a simple pressure of the thumb, horn, side lamp, headlight and dipped beam) and finally the marque’s reputed flywheel magnetos.]

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Société des Établissements Edouard Mottaz, of Nanterre, is France’s undisputed fuel-tank technician and also a specialist in pressed articles for motorcycles, motorized bicycles and mopeds. Its tanks are meant exclusively for wholesalers and manufacturers, and every type of tank as to shape and capacity is made. The firm’s other products are exhaust pots, expanding tank caps, tool boxes and crankcase covers, and the forty years of experience the company counts in its branch are offered as a guarantee of quality.]

Les guidons et jantes PIVO

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. For many years the Maison L. Allès, under its Pivo mark, has specialized in making bicycle handlebars and light-metal rims. The impeccable quality and presentation have won it a very numerous public: not only cycle professionals and racing cyclists but also tourists and workers who use bicycles daily. The mark’s part in the great sporting events is said to be more than a formality; the champions Bobet, Carrara, Varnajo, Lévêque, Barbotin and Jodet have fitted their bicycles with Pivo products.]

Les jantes et garde-boue REINHARD et CHAPUISET

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Établissements Reinhard et Chapuiset have taken up making light-alloy rims for motorized bicycles. At first only the 19 x 2 1/4 rim existed, tested in the laboratory and on the road and sold fully guaranteed; several moped makers have fitted it in series for some months and many wholesalers fit it to machines already in use. Lightness, strength and cleanliness are named as the main factors of the success. To satisfy all users the firm has tooled for 600 x 65 and 19 x 2 1/2 rims; the sizes are indicative, since all diameters can be made in these three profiles, notably 16 or 18 inch, and 23-inch rims have even been made for races the text spells “grass-rack” (grass-track). Fender making for motorized bicycles and motorcycles is also modernizing: the firm can supply very deep round-form fenders in a single steel piece, made to different curvatures for 16, 18 or 19-inch wheels. In conclusion the firm can meet customers’ wishes for any machine under construction or repair, for both rims and fenders.]

L’auto-mélangeur S.A.T.A.M.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The S.A.T.A.M. auto-mixer, approved by the Service des Instruments de mesure, is presented as a flexible and harmonious answer to the problem of mixing and dispensing oil and fuel, and has drawn the attention of users and two-stroke customers alike. The features are printed as a list.]

— Modèle fixe ou mobile ;
— Distribution par demi-litre de une ou deux qualités d’huile de 4 à 10 % ou éventuellement d’essence pure ;
— Compteur partiel et totalisateur ;

[Ebykr summary of the closing sentence; the article’s text is not reproduced. The text calls it a complete apparatus whose range of performance justifies a rapid success.]

Les fabrications SEDIS

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Compagnie des Transmissions mécaniques Sedis is a great specialist in chain for the motorcycle or the bicycle, everything about this equipment having been studied to give the user full satisfaction. The Yellorex chain, made specially for the bicycle, exists in several models, all remarkable for low weight against breaking strength: the normal Yellorex, at 280 g per meter, breaks at 825 kg, and the Yellorex course, for the same weight, supports tensions of the order of 1,100 kg. The same qualities are found in the Yellow chain for motorcycles: in single row the model 10612, 13 N breaks at 3,000 kg for a weight of 1,250 kg, and the text breaks off at the foot of the page at “et un modèle de”, continued on the next page.]

— Page 5 —
[Ebykr summary, continuing the Sedis piece from page 97; the article’s text is not reproduced. A double-row chain, the 10427, 207 N, is given as a strength of 3,200 kg for 1,350 kg per meter, as printed. Handling chain poses rather delicate problems for the bicycle dealer, so Sedis has created a portable dispenser that is called indispensable in any modern workshop: the chain stays clear of dust and protected from grease, bulk is cut to a minimum, orderly sorting of spare parts saves time, carrying the chain to the chosen spot is easy, and a stabilizing system lets the chain be placed where it works best. Fitting and removing bicycle chains used to take rather a long time; with the Sedis chain breaker no more time is lost and fewer links are broken, the simple and ingenious tool allowing a chain to be fitted or removed in a few minutes. Every Yellorex box is now fitted with the Sedis chain breaker.]

Les dérailleurs LE SIMPLEX

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The international champions Kubler, Schaer, Bahamontès and others were extremely but pleasantly surprised by the qualities of the Juy 543, which they tried on the slopes of the Galibier; all were won over by the new device and hope, thanks to it, to have one of their most brilliant seasons next year.]

Voici les principales caractéristiques du dérailleur Juy 543 :

[Ebykr summary of the printed list of characteristics, kept in order; the article’s text is not reproduced. The outward offset is reduced to a minimum, the device not projecting beyond the line of the locking base, so snagging is avoided. The mechanism, under a case, is sheltered from the weather. The derailleur can be used with freewheels of three, four and five speeds, so it is no longer necessary to own a whole set of equipment for different profiles, and the adjusting index allows the derailleur to be used if the control cable breaks. The articulation spring is in a sealed housing and so also sheltered. Smooth running is provided by rollers, balls of four millimeters and large-diameter cones, and the double articulation, compensating for large differences between chainrings, also gives great smoothness. The reciprocating part works in an oil bath.]

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Besides the Juy 543, the Établissements Le Simplex make a very wide range of devices whose renown is established: derailleurs of every kind, control levers, frame lugs, bumpers for derailleurs, chain guards and more, all quality systems much appreciated by users.]

Les avertisseurs SONAX-C

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The new Sonax-C horn, patented S.G.D.G., 75 mm in diameter, with a double sound adjustment, is called universal because it works perfectly on all mopeds, the Mobylette and Vélosolex included, without changing the factory setting, which is meant for all flywheel magnetos of 6 to 12 watts. It can also be fitted to two-wheelers with stronger flywheels of 6 volts 15 and 18 watts or 12 volts, where a few simple operations raise the Sonax-C’s power. For motorists with a 6-volt 25/30 watt flywheel the Sonax Vélomoteur is particularly recommended; it works at night without putting out the headlight, unlike certain rectifier devices. Both horns work only on a flywheel magneto and can be supplied with a handlebar control button on request.]

Le timbre SONNCLAIR

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Sonnclair bell sounds without any system on the wheel, and so without a transmission, through a very ingenious combination. An escapement, itself driven by the central gear on the axle, drives and then releases a free plate; the plate carries three eccentrics on its rim, with some play on their axis, which strike the bell as long as the plate turns, long enough that the finger needs to act on the control only at spaced intervals. The “cloche” cannot be lost, since it screws itself back on automatically while running. The AG 3 horn is extremely robust, being made of Duralinox, and forms one of the most elegant sets. The depositary agent for this production is M. Lachèvre, of Paris.]

Les bancs d’essai SOURIAU

[Ebykr summary of the opening; the article’s text is not reproduced. Making test benches calls for the greatest care and knowledge of the latest technical progress, and the Établissements Souriau have perfected benches of absolute precision.]

Le banc 1311 a les fonctions suivantes :
— L’essai et la mise au point des volants magnétiques de tous les types ;
— Un moteur de 1/2 CV, antiparasité à vitesse variable 150-5.000 t/mn ;
— Un inverseur de sens de rotation ;
— Un pupitre d’essai avec éclateur et disque de mesure d’avance ;
— Des appareils de mesures encastrés (voltmètre, ampèremètre, tachymètre) ;

[Ebykr summary of the following lines; the article’s text is not reproduced. A safety hood protects the user against any risk of accident; a range of shafts and quick-fit intermediates allows testing of all current types of flywheel; shafts and intermediate shaft ends for special flywheels can be supplied on request; and the supply is provided at 110 volts (or 220 volts on request). Bench 1214 is for rapid engine diagnosis: it allows checking of the battery charging circuit, the starting circuit, the ignition coil, condensers, resistances and insulation, engine speed and cam angle, the carburetor and the ignition advance. The gas analyzer 1195-1295 is indispensable for carburetor adjustment under normal running conditions; the starting controller 1191-1291 checks the starting circuit of motor vehicles at 6 V and 12 V; and the vacuum gauge 1183-1283 allows examination of the cylinders and the fuel pump.]

Les moyeux STURMEY-ARCHER

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Half a century ago, the text recalls, the first three-speed Sturmey-Archer hub was introduced and so revolutionized the cyclist that people began to ride the bicycle for pleasure: with a Sturmey-Archer hub the cyclist lengthened his tours and came home fresh without any fatigue, hills and headwinds no longer frightened him, and his average speeds rose along with his comfort and pleasure. Since then the range of hubs has never ceased to grow, so that today the type of hub exists that suits everyone. The text ends with a reference to page 101.]

(Suite page 101.)

99

— Page 6 —
[Ebykr summary, continuing the Sturmey-Archer piece from page 99; the article’s text is not reproduced. Sturmey-Archer hubs have today gained such popularity that all the important world marques recommend them to their customers. The advantages are printed as a list: absolute silence of operation when rolling; the bicycle chain always in line, so no friction and smooth running; a mechanism bathed in oil and absolutely sheltered from dust and mud; economy of upkeep through the absence of premature wear of chain and sprockets; and a mechanism protected if the bicycle falls.]

[Ebykr summary, below the engraving of the hub; the article’s text is not reproduced. A light finger touch changes gear with silence and suppleness, and all these advantages come for a weight increase of about 100 grams on the same machine fitted with a derailleur. That small difference is even removed on the “Sports” models AM, AC, FM and FC, whose light-alloy hub shell saves 100 g against the steel shell of the standard models. Hubs with drum brake and dynamo hubs are also noted, the principle always being the same, with the mechanism inside the hub.]

— Petite vitesse avec 25 % de réduction ;
— Grande vitesse avec 33 1/3 de démultiplication.

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The reduction, with planetary gear turning in an oil bath, gives smooth and long-lasting running, and the hub can be fitted to any bicycle. For the middle speed, direct drive, with 28-inch wheels and 46 teeth at the chainset, a sprocket of 19 teeth is used on a man’s bicycle and 20 teeth on a lady’s; for 26-inch wheels the sprockets have 18 and 19 teeth respectively. The importer in France is the Maison William Dumont.]

Les productions TAILLANDIER

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Under their “Kangourou” mark the Établissements Taillandier presented at the Salon, with great success, their very latest saddlebags for Vespa and Lambretta scooters, which the text calls true on-board suitcase-cabinets (valises-armoirettes de bord) for these modern machines. The photograph shows a bag fitted to a scooter. The text notes in particular the equipping of these bags with a radio set, which joins pleasure to comfort.]

La vulcanisation TIP-TOP

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. After long years of trials and experience the Société française des Produits Tip-Top has perfected a serrated-edge repair piece that combines many advantages, printed as a list.]

— Cette pièce de réparation s’amalgame complètement avec la chambre à air ;
— La pièce Tip-Top ne présente pas la moindre aspérité. Seul son bord rouge la distingue de la chambre elle-même. Tous risques de décollage partiel par frottement sont évités ;
— Deux pièces peuvent être collées l’une sur l’autre ;
— Dans le pneu, par la chaleur produite par le roulement, la pièce se vulcanise de plus en plus ;

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The serrated edge ensures a markedly better balance of tensions between patch and tube, and an added central reinforcement in special rubber gives increased stabilization of the vulcanization. In an entirely different field the firm has made a “spot-light” portable headlamp, light yet reaching 1,000 meters, with no reflector to tarnish, shock-proof and rustproof, made of flexible polystyrene, called indispensable in a garage or a car trunk.]

Le moyeu TORPEDO

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Fichtel et Sachs, of Schweinfurt, complete their already wide range of hubs with a three-speed hub with coaster (backpedal) brake. Intended for utility bicycles, the hub would not look out of place on a sports bicycle. The gear ratios are particularly well chosen to spare the user painful effort on climbs or in a strong wind; the sealing is absolute because the carefully made double planetary gear is one with the hub; the upkeep needed is practically nil, the reduction turning in an oil bath; and the middle speed is the direct drive.]

Les fabrications TRON et BERTHET

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The old firm of Pont-Saint-Pierre is still marked by an extremely young manufacturing program. The new “Idéale” racing saddle, a revelation of the Salon, bears this out: it has a duralumin or steel frame, and its leather top has a pressed central hollow, and this “professionnel” model is delivered in a plastic bag with a guarantee voucher. The text also recalls the “Idéale” saddle with a luminescent rear and the Junior tansad for children, whose model 55 is further improved.]

Les fabrications VICKERS

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Établissements Vickers (registered mark Vic) are the specialists in molded rubber for motorcycles, motorized bicycles and scooters, and each year their range grows by a few models. Having studied the motorcycle question for many years, they offer very many articles, from the dynamo cap and all the blocks, grips, shock absorbers, fork bellows and knee grips up to the famous goggle favored by motorcycle champions, and rubber articles for equipping the Vespa. The reputation of these works is established, and the most demanding clientele is satisfied by both prices and the superior quality of manufacture.]

Les créations VÉLOX

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Vélox vulcanizing solution, “guidoline” and “boyauléine” are well known on the market, as is the aluminum paint, which keeps its favor with users by its quality; the paint imitates chrome perfectly and permanently protects painted surfaces.]

[Ebykr summary, continuing the Vélox piece from page 101; the article’s text is not reproduced. The firm also makes in large series a transparent plastic fuel hose in all diameters, which corrosive liquids and fuels do not attack. In the same plastic field a new product is gaining ground day by day: a plastic box holding an assortment of patches for repairing inner tubes. Very elegantly presented, the repair kit is a plastic case with a yellow base and a transparent lid, and its closure and hinge are ingenious and patented.]

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Mopeds, scooters and bicycles normally equipped with complete alternating-current lighting from the flywheel magneto have, despite their sturdiness, a few drawbacks. Installing a small Vélowest rectifier that charges a 6-volt 7 ampere-hour battery removes many of them: the rear lamp is no longer subject to surges and the bulb no longer risks burning out at speed or when the headlight supply circuit is accidentally cut; the horn has a much better tone, no longer dependent on engine speed; and the vehicle can be lit at a standstill. The existing lighting can also be completed with a fog lamp fed from the battery and put into service only when wanted, by a simple press on a horn-type button on the handlebar. The change, easy on every machine fitted with a flywheel magneto, will give a large number of users added safety and driving pleasure.]

Les pédales WIPPERMANN

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The great German marque has made pedals whose reputation has spread worldwide, justified by the quality of the raw materials and the finish of manufacture. The models shown are very varied: either with a metal cage and saw teeth, or the various rubber-block types, in long blocks or divided into two pads on each side of the pedal. The text names in particular model no. 55, an oval sports pedal with rubber blocks set laterally in chromed metal bands (91 mm + 65 mm), which the engraving shows.]

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. Wageor flywheel magnetos, simple, powerful and effective, are a production of the Forges et Ateliers de la Vence et de la Fournaise. The type V. 15C is specially designed to equip mopeds; made with particular care in a field of electrical equipment that tolerates no technical weakness, the flywheel gives the user, hence the motorcyclist, the guarantee of safe and very long-lasting running.]

Les plates-formes de porte-bagages « V et W »

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The platform of the “Mobylettes” is judged insufficient by many users wishing to strap on luggage or a suitcase of some size. They can replace it with the sturdy V et W pressed platform of 380 x 180, which fits quickly with the same bolts and at the same points as the original and is supplied in the two “Mobylette” colors.]

[Ebykr summary; the article’s text is not reproduced. The Manufacture générale de Caoutchouc et de Pneumatiques has long specialized in tires for two wheels, whether bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles or scooters. In the very wide range of tires and tubular tires for bicycles the text cites the fine qualities of the two-color tires, the “type F” half-covered tires for cyclotourists and tires for children’s bicycles. Among tubular tires, beside vulcanized tubes, the W 300 tube, whose renown this year rests on an impressive record, was much noticed. For motorcycles and scooters, tires of excellent road holding and very good appearance also had great success. Beside this tire production a very wide choice of bicycle accessories was shown, among them the rubberized-fabric saddle whose reputation for sturdiness is well established.]

[Seven full pages of editorial text, each set in two columns of italic roman type with bold-face lead-in phrases, black bold sans-serif firm headings set flush right, and a small black star between the pieces. Page 91 opens with a large black banner in white hand-cut capitals reading “Équipements Outillage”, the words “Aux programmes de l’après-Salon” in tall roman capitals to its right and “Chapitre Second” beneath; it carries a line drawing of two curved motorcycle handlebars labeled “Normal M.20” and “2 Parties M 11” and four brake and clutch levers lettered with part numbers in small sans-serif type. Page 93 has a boxed line drawing of a woman shown to the shoulders in a quilted sleeping bag, and a boxed line engraving of a telescopic fork with shaded tubes and two flat guard plates. Page 94 has a boxed engraving of a curved exhaust pipe joined to a cylindrical muffler with two mounting lugs, and a boxed black-and-white drawing of a perforated cycling shoe with laces. Page 97 has a boxed engraving of a round flywheel magneto with a separate cylindrical coil lettered “Morel”, and the lower part of a boxed halftone photograph of an upright cabinet with a hose and a dark base. Page 99 has a boxed line drawing in pen and wash of a rear derailleur on a bicycle: a hub at the left, a multi-sprocket cluster with the chain over it, a curved guard arching above and a sprung arm below, drawn with a few thin frame tubes. It is signed at the lower right of the drawing with the letters D and R joined in a monogram followed by the word “Rebour”, the signature of Daniel Rebour; the caption beneath reads “Ci-dessus un autre modèle : Le « Tour de France »”. Page 101 has a boxed line drawing of a Sturmey-Archer rear hub with the maker’s name and “AW-7” on its shell, a toothed sprocket and a chain and rod at the right, and a halftone photograph of a saddlebag fitted to a scooter. Page 103 has a boxed line drawing of a transparent display stand stacked with small plastic repair kits and one open kit beside it with rolled patches and a tube, lettered “Vélox”; a boxed engraving of an oval pedal with a ribbed rubber tread and a side plate pierced with slots; and a boxed line drawing in two views of a pressed luggage platform on a moped rear wheel and on a rear fender. The chapter closes with a large-type notice sending the reader to pages 29 to 43. No signature other than Rebour’s appears on the drawings. Page numbers stand at the foot of each page.]
